The whole shooting up the SUV— which was still being repaired— was all about playing a little game of cat and mouse.

Naturally, the information that Nora and I had discovered about the Rosary Killer, I’d turned into my brother. I figured maybe they’d catch him before I put a bullet in his head but it seemed even after the information shared and alerting people to be vigilant the trail had gone cold.

The night after Nora and I had returned to her apartment from our little bar adventure, I’d spotted something on her door before she could. Under the guise of being a gentleman, I’d opened her apartment door for her and used my hand to keep the door knob covered.

She’d been talking animatedly about beating up some bar fly and the entire bar fight I’d caused that she hadn’t noticed my sleight of hand.

A rosary had been placed on her door knob.

He was letting me know that he knew where I was, and who I was with.

I’d thrown the Rosary away and took out the garbage that same night, peering around buildings and making sure he was long gone. Nora had been practically crushed against my side all night long and I’d still barely slept.

“You know,” Nora said pulling me out of my thoughts. “This isn’t my idea of a date.”

I smiled and pushed the shooting ear muffs over her ears. If I couldn’t be around her twenty four seven to protect her myself, there was no way in hell I was going to leave Nora unprotected. Ace’s Shooting Range had awesome customer service and had even given us a free hour of shooting because I came in often enough.

“Yeah, well….” I paused, trying to figure out how I should phrase my words. Nora didn’t know about the Rosary. “It’s a skill every American should know.”

She rolled her eyes and pulled back the slide, lined up her sight with the target. I got behind her and helped adjust her stance.

“Pull the trigger when you’re ready, Darlin,” I whispered knowing the sporting ear muffs were amplifying my voice.

The Corsican approved of this date. He didn’t want anything to happen to her either. He was worried, and I could feel it. He never worried…

Nora began to fire.

Shells popped out of the Glock 26 as she squeezed the trigger without much effort.

“Shoot to wound,” I murmured. “It’s enough to help you get out of a bad situation.”

“Yeah, yeah,” she said and lowered the gun placing it down on the control booth desk.

Stepping from behind her, I hit the button for the target system. The paper target made its way slowly up the firing range that we had all to ourselves. When it reached us I detached it and we took in the bullet holes.

Nora hadn’t hit any vital organs on the green man target but his knee caps would’ve been blown off.

“Good work,” I kissed her forehead.

She shook her head and then checked her phone. “We need to get back to my apartment. We’re gonna be late.”

I sighed.

For me the shooting range was definitely going to be a lot more fun than going to Sebastian and Brie’s engagement party. I had no idea who was on the list, but I knew that Gisella was going to be there for sure. I should have been studying the list closer, but some things had taken a back seat and my mind had been preoccupied.

“Can’t we skip this?”

Nora began to take the ear muffs off. “Are you trying to get fired? I mean you make a shit ton of money, so you can afford it.”

“Like you don’t, Miss-I-Drive-A-Porsche…”

She stuck her tongue out and that was the wrong thing to do. I pulled her in close, and gripped her ass cheeks. “Why don’t I just fuck you right here in this booth.”

“Masonnnn,” she whined, grinding against me.

Nora always had me hard as fuck. Finally, I relented but I just wanted her to know that I was going to tear that ass up later. Giving her ass one final squeeze, we cleaned up our station and I said good night to Roger the owner of Ace’s.

Once we got back to Nora’s, she showered first and got dressed and then I followed. When I came out of her bathroom, she was nowhere in sight. My heart started to beat fast, panic settling into my stomach. I called after her.
