“What do you mean?” I shimmied my shoulders, tension was building in my back.

“He wasn’t jealous. He didn’t really care about his father and me…”

This woman actually seemed to pout. I had calculated that Gisella DeLuca was the same age as Mason, making her roughly three years older than me.

She gave a laugh then as if remembering something. “He actually…or rather that thing inside of him, wanted to snap my neck when I saw him tonight.”

“You saw Mason tonight?”

She huffed, rubbing her hand over her stomach. “Tobias decided to go fucking rogue. This….” She raked her eyes over me again. “This was not the fucking plan.”

“Did Mr. Zacharra know that Tobias was murdering all those women…that he’s the Rosary killer?”

Gisella frowned. “Did he know? Auggie is the reason that Tobias is everything that he is. He’s like Mason now and Mason’s brothers.”

“Tobias….he’s a Corsican?”

Gisella nodded. “Yeah, like a synthetic version, but her,” she looked down at her stomach. “She’ll be different. She’ll be able to sway the minds of men. She’ll carry the gene.”

“But when you say Mr. Zacharra is the reason?”

Gisella was about to continue but the door to the office opened back up and Augustus Zacharra stepped back inside. Tobias wasn’t with him and I breathed a slight sigh of relief. A fire opal pin glittered on the lapel of his dark suit. Alarm bells started to ring. More dots started to connect. The hostess at the Hellfire Club in Italy had worn one.

Tobias had brought me… to hell. I was in an office at the Seattle Hellfire Club for sure. Even some of the décor seemed to give off brooding sexual energy.

Auggie,I thought and then I remembered. The names in Gisella’s calendar.Auggiehad been one of the names among many.

“You took her hood off?” Augustus looked shocked.

“Where’s she gonna go, Auggie?” Gisella came over and reached up on her tiptoes.

They kissed grossly and I wanted to vomit. When they finished, he came around and inspected me, lifting my chin and staring into my eyes.

“I do hate that Tobias kidnapped you,” Augustus replied.

“Then let me go,” I roughly jerked my head away.

“I’m afraid, I can’t do that. One, you’d probably spoil my plans and two…Mason will be here shortly. It’s a shame we didn’t get to have a family dinner. I sense I would have liked you.”

“You’re going to let Tobias kill me. I’m an innocent bystander in all this,” I shrieked.

Augusta Zacharra looked so much like both Mason and Matteo that it was scary. I was sure Mason thought that whenever he saw his father.

“Collateral damage, my dear,” he smirked before moving away.

Gisella remained by the door. I chanced looking at her but she was avoiding my gaze. When I focused on Augustus again, he was turning on some monitors behind him. I couldn’t believe my eyes at what I saw on the screen.

Tobias, was shedding his shirt. He was purely muscle and it appeared as if he were in some sort of fighter’s ring.

“I thought you might like to watch my son die,” Augustus smiled.

He had the coldest eyes I’d ever seen.

“You can’t let this happen,” I looked over at Gisella. “If you ever felt anything for Mason that was real, you can’t.”

She’d been leaning against the door. “Mason’s a big boy. He can handle himself.”

My eyes returned to Augustus who was smiling. He was a sadistically cruel man dressed up in a nice suit. I almost felt sorry for Gisella because I’m sure whatever he’d told her, whatever he’d promised her, it was not what she bargained for. The devil is in the details, as they say.
