Luisa moved closer to me and rested her head on my shoulder. “I know that, Press.”

Her confidence in me was humbling, and I would never take it lightly. “I have a proposal for you.”

She raised her head. “What?”

“Rather than immediately return to Seahorse, I was wondering if you’d like to pay a visit to my parents’ estate in Napa. The security there is equal to mine.” Something else occurred to me. “Unless, of course, you’d prefer to return to Butler Ranch.” I assumed that would be okay with Laird and Sorcha Butler, but I would confirm it with them if that was her choice.

“I’ve never been to Napa.”

I leaned over and kissed her temple, something I did out of habit. “If you’re interested, I’m sure my parents will adore you…err…our visit.” I held my breath, waiting for her to ask about Beau.

“If you’re sure I wouldn’t be imposing.”

“Not at all. I should finalize our flight plan,” I said after a long enough time had passed without her asking the question I dreaded.

“Jaicon said she’d be traveling with us.”

“Are you comfortable with her doing so?”

Her eyes bored into mine. “I am as long as you…”

I sat back down beside her. “As long as I what?”

She shook her head, and her eyes filled with tears.

“Tell me, pet.” I closed my own eyes, reprimanding myself for using an expression she didn’t like. “Sorry,” I muttered.

“Earlier, you seemed…distant.”

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders. “There are times I feel as though I’m smothering you with my overprotective nature. I thought to give you space, not make you feel abandoned.”

“If I want space, I’ll let you know.”

“Noted,” I said, standing for the second time. I couldn’t help but make the supposition that as soon as my brother showed his face, either in Napa or once we returned to Seahorse, my close presence would no longer be required.

We werein the air a little more than an hour when Jaicon entered the cockpit.

“Everything all right?” I asked.

“I thought perhaps you’d like to take a break. More for Luisa’s sake than your own.”

My eyes opened wide, and I looked over at Zin, who nodded. I hurried around her, confused when I saw Luisa sitting comfortably, thumbing through a magazine.

“Hi,” she said, looking up when I took a seat across from her.

“Hi.”

“Um, do you have to get back?” she motioned to the cockpit.

“Not right away if you need something. Jaicon is also a pilot.”

“She is?”

“Yes.”

“Does that mean you can stay out here with me, at least for a little while?”

“As long as you’d like, actually.”
