“Surprise me,” I said, with a wink.

His gaze heated.

“Yuck. I’m standingrighthere,” Waverly muttered.

“Seriously. They’re nauseating,” Savage agreed.

Savage and Duke went to the bar and Waverly and I plopped down into the booth.

“So, you’re supposed to be in school. You’re not in school. Where does school think you are?”

“I called the school pretending to be Mom and said I was sick.”

“If only you used your superpowers for good,” I quipped.

“But I want to be a supervillain, not a superhero,” she replied.

I leaned back against the booth. “It’s looking like we’re moving…”

“Yeah, I know.” She nodded. “The house is beautiful, and I can’t believe I get my own workshop. When I saw it I burst into tears. I can’t believe it’s real.”

“You, burst into tears?” I asked.

She opened her eyes wide. “I’m getting sentimental in my old age.”

Chapter33

“I don’t wanta wedding like Doc and Boxer’s,” I said. “Or even a wedding like Brooklyn and Slash’s.”

“Okay,” Duke said with a shrug. He shoveled in another bite of corned beef and cabbage like I hadn’t said anything.

I looked at Waverly and frowned.

She shrugged.

“We could have a party,” I suggested. “After we’re all moved in. If you want…”

“Okay.” Duke set his fork down and reached for his pint of Guinness.

“Duke,” I whined.

“What?” he demanded.

“You don’t want a wedding?” I asked in exasperation.

He looked at me, then at Savage, who was grinning in amusement, to Waverly who was watching the play with interest.

“Do I want a wedding,” Duke repeated. “Does any man actuallywanta wedding?”

“Does any man actuallywantto get married?” Savage quipped.

“Hush you,” I stated to Savage, and then returned my attention to Duke. “You really don’t want a wedding?”

“Nope. Don’t care either way. If you’d wanted one, I’d have gone along with it to make you happy, but I don’t give a flying fuck about it.”

I glared at him.

“What?” he asked. “What’s that glare for?”
