“So, show us the ring,” Doc said, leaning forward, holding out her hand.

I could take a hint. Doc didn’t want to talk about babies or about her starting a family with Boxer, and I’d gladly oblige and take the focus off her.

“That’s gorgeous,” Darcy said as she peered over the couch to get a better look.

“Tell us about the proposal,” Brooklyn said.

“Screw that.” Darcy riffled through her purse and pulled out a mini bottle of vodka. “Let’s get her drunk and make her tell all about the sex.”

“When did you get booze?” Mia asked in exasperation.

“Stopped off at the liquor store on my way over.” Darcy shrugged.

“It’s not even ten o’clock in the morning,” Joni said with a laugh.

“Relax, it’s a girls’ brunch. It’s not like I just opened a bottle of tequila. Okay?” Darcy said.

“Thank God,” Mia muttered. “Dangerous things happen at girls’ hang outs when tequila is involved.”

“Like what?” I asked, intrigued.

“We get drunk, demand our men service us, and thenboom!Pregnant,” Joni explained.

Darcy unscrewed the lid and poured a splash into my drink, hardly enough to be considered an actual cocktail. I stirred it with my finger and took a drink. I couldn’t even taste it, which either meant I had to be careful, or there really wasn’t that much in there.

Mia turned her attention to me. “So, the proposal?”

“Right,” I said with a dreamy sigh. And then I told them the entire story, including the house Duke had put an offer on. “He thought of everything. It was…incredible.”

“I can’t believe he found something so perfect so quickly,” Allison said.

“He was house hunting for a while, apparently,” I admitted. “I think probably as soon as we got together.”

“It took Torque and I months,” Allison said.

“That’s because Torque had very specific ideas about what he wanted, whereas you didn’t care as much,” Darcy said.

Allison shrugged. “I gave him this one. He’s given into me on other things. It works for us that way.”

“What is it with Blue Angels men?” Doc asked. “They’re like…I don’t know. A different breed of men. Committed, like immediately. They want families and babies.”

“I never thought Boxer was going to meet a woman he’d want to be with forever,” Joni said. “But you’re right. They meet the one and then it’s like, insta-bondage.” She paused. “That came out wrong. You know what I meant.”

“Speaking of bondage,” Darcy said.

“Okay, what’s up with you?” Joni demanded.

“What do you mean?” Darcy asked.

“I mean, you’re like sex obsessed and it’s the weirdest thing ever,” Joni said.

She sighed. “Sorry. Sex is all I can think about lately. I think it’s my body’s last-ditch effort to get me to squeeze out another human before my eggs dry up. I’m fighting for all it’s worth, but y’all are not helping with the cute babies you’re popping out.”

“Sorry, we’ll stop,” Joni said with a wink at Mia.

Mia laughed. “Yeah, we’ll stop.”

“No. Don’t stop,” Darcy begged. “Keep having babies so I don’t have to have another one.”
