The Old Ladies sat in a cluster with the babies in front of them on a blanket on the grass, and the Blue Angels were chatting in smaller groups; some around the grill, others on the lawn.

We dropped the food at the grill and Darcy gave her husband a kiss on the lips. He pinched the tongs at her and then went back to manning the fire.

Savage and Duke stood with Colt. Mia went to him and he automatically reached out and pulled her into his side.

“You,” Savage said, pointing a finger at me.

“Me, what?” I demanded.

“You little liar.”

“Liar? I’m not a liar.”

Savage grinned, a dangerous glint in his eye. “I know what you’ve been up to.”

“I haven’t been up to anything,” I said calmly. I saw Duke out of the corner of my eye, staring at me while he took a sip of his beer.

“This past Wednesday,” he drawled. “You said you were out with a client.”

“I was.”

“I don’t think so.”

I glared at him.

He grinned cheekily. “You were on a date with someone, weren’t you?”

“No, I was out to dinner with a client,” I insisted.

“You’re a web designer,” he pointed out. “Your meetings are through email and Zoom. I think you’re seeing someone in secret.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Hate to disappoint you, but you’re wrong. I really was out to dinner with a client.”

“Beer?” Duke asked.

“Please,” I muttered. I placed my hand in the center of Savage’s chest, leaned in close and asked, “How much have you had to drink?”

“Boxer broke open the new batch of moonshine,” Colt said. The Blue Angels president couldn’t suppress his grin. “Savage took it upon himself to be the unofficial taste tester.”

“Where did you eat?” Savage asked.

“What?”

“Dinner on Wednesday night? With yourclient? What restaurant?”

“An Italian wine bar. Now shove off and let me enjoy myself. It’s been a long week.” Duke returned and handed me a beer. “Thanks,” I said to him.

“You know I love you.” Savage roped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me against him. “And if you were dating someone, it’s my right as your best friend to make sure he’s not a dickbag. Just like I did with Dylan.”

He gestured with his chin.

I turned my head and saw Waverly and Dylan talking to Torque.

“No way,” I said with a laugh. “Is Torqueactuallytalking?”

“It appears that way,” Mia quipped.

“What did you find out about Dylan, by the way?” I asked him.
