“Kid’s fucking smart,” Savage said. “Volunteers as a tutor and keeps his grades up. No record of trouble.”

“The exact kind of guy you want Waverly with,” Duke added.

I looked at my sister and her boyfriend. He gazed down at her with amusement and adoration, and she stared up at him with the same look.

“Mia!” Allison called. “Scarlett needs a diaper change!”

“On it,” Mia yelled back.

Colt let her go, but not without a steamy kiss. They didn’t care about the audience around them. They were publicly affectionate and deeply in love.

I glanced at Duke to find him still staring at me.

“I’m gonna go chill with the Old Ladies,” I said to him. “I’ll talk to you boys later.”

I followed Mia to the group of women. Mia leaned down and scooped up her infant daughter and then went inside.

Joni took a sip of her drink and then grimaced. “Baby’s foot is underneath my ribs. I’m so ready to be done with the pregnancy thing.”

Allison smiled. “That’s usually how it works. You get so annoyed about being pregnant, you no longer worry about a baby coming out of you.”

“Nature’s design,” Darcy agreed.

“Where’s Doc?” I asked.

“She’s still at the clinic,” Joni said. “She’ll be here in about an hour.”

The back door opened and Brooklyn exited, holding a pastry box. “Jesus, woman,” Slash growled from behind her, holding his own pastry box. “You didn’t have to bring the entire bakery.”

“Do you love me?” Brooklyn asked her man.

“Yeah.”

“Does baking make me happy?”

“Yeah.”

“Then why are you griping?” she grinned up at him.

“Foreplay,” Darcy said with a laugh.

Allison giggled. “No doubt.”

I shook my head. I was surrounded by happy couples, several of whom had babies or were pregnant. It made me think about the conversation I’d had with Duke on our date.

“What is this?” Brooklyn demanded, pointing to a platter on the table.

“It looks like cookies,” Boxer quipped. “Doesn’t it, Lily Burger?”

Lily nodded.

“This is an insult. A travesty!” Brooklyn stated. “You gotstore boughtcookies? KnowingIwas coming to this shindig?”

“Did she just say shindig?” Joni asked in amusement.

“Uh oh,” Darcy muttered.

“Uh oh what?”
