“Come hang out with us,” she said, gesturing toward her and Dylan.

“I’ll be right there.” I shot Duke a look and then went and dropped off the drinks before heading to my sister and her boyfriend. They were still standing with Torque. I didn’t know Torque well, but I knew he was taciturn and gruff.

“Hi, Torque,” I said.

“‘Lo,” Torque greeted. He took a sip of his beer.

Waverly rolled her eyes. “Oh my God. Dude, open your mouth and sayhellolike a normal person.”

My jaw gaped as I heard my sister chastise a six-foot giant of a biker.

But Torque cracked a smile and said, “Hi, Willa.”

“Uh, hi.” I blinked.

Waverly elbowed Torque in the side. “See? Wasn’t that hard.”

“You’re pushing your luck, Little Punk,” Torque growled. With that pronouncement, he took his beer and left.

“How the hell did you get away with that?” I demanded. “I’ve never even heard him say more than a few words at a time.”

“She likes playing with fire.” Dylan grinned at her and opened the can of soda in his hand.

“Speaking of fire,” I quipped. “How is it you have the balls to come to a barbecue full of bikers you’ve never met?”

“They’re her family,” Dylan said with a shrug. “They just want to make sure I’m not a creep.”

“Okay, but what ifIthink you’re a creep?” I asked. “I’m the big sister after all. It’s me you have to make an impression on.”

“So do you like him?” Waverly asked.

“Too soon to tell,” I teased. “You kids have fun. I’m gonna go hang out with the adults.”

“Adults,” Waverly said. “Yuck.”

Just as I sat back down with the Old Ladies, Brooklyn and Slash came out of the clubhouse, drawing my attention. I watched as Slash brought their linked hands together and kissed the back of her palm. Brooklyn smiled and stole a hand across her baby bump.

I glanced at Darcy. “Time?”

Darcy looked at her watch. “Twenty-seven minutes! I’m the closest! Pay up, scoundrels!”

“Pay up for what?” Slash demanded.

“We made a bet to see how long it took you to comfort Brooklyn,” Joni said. “And by comfort, I meancomfort.”

Brooklyn’s face suffused with color and then she buried her head in her husband’s shoulder in obvious embarrassment.

Slash, on the other hand, looked pleased with himself. He let go of his wife and she ambled over to us and took a seat.

“So, you guys are using my hormones against me to make money?” Brooklyn asked. “That’s like a new level of hustling.”

“It’s a rite of passage. You’re one of us now,” Allison said.

Brooklyn snorted. Slash appeared by her side and handed her a cup. He bent over, whispered something in her ear that made her blush, and then went to talk to Zip.

Boxer sauntered over to the group of us and hoisted Lily off his shoulders. He set her down and then reached into the pocket of his jeans and nudged the phone in Lily’s direction. “You’re calling Doc for me, okay?”

Lily took the phone. “Why am I calling her?”
