Lindsey spoke with so much sadness and hurt, it pained me to think of how much she had gone through in my absence. I wanted to close the space between us and comfort her, but I wasn't in the clear yet. I still had to explain Lauren to her.

She said, oh-so-quietly, "I should have known you had someone back home, but I refused to be logical about anything when it concerned you. How could I know you were married if you weren't telling me?”

"No! Not married! I broke up with Lauren so long before meeting you, that not only was Lauren no longer part of my life when I arrived here, there is no way I could be the father of her child."

That stopped her cold! “Lauren came here to blackmail me into, at the very minimum, giving her a small fortune in child support. But her best wish was that I marry her and support her for the rest of her life. Believe me when I say that is never going to happen. Especially since it's someone else's child.”

My explanation wasn't a long one, as my relationship with Lauren wasn't complicated, but I gave her the whole story. When I was done, I looked at Lindsey for a response, but she didn't have one. She just stared at me blankly, and I got scared that my coming back had all been for naught.

"Why are you here, Trev?" she asked me after a while.

"I don't know." I paused. “Yes, in fact, I know exactly why I’m here, but I don’t have the words to say why. So just bear with me while I try. Lindsey, while I was away, you were all I could think of. I tried to bury myself in work, but when that was over, thoughts of you came flooding back into my head." I waited for a change in her expression, but none came.

"I missed you every minute I was away," I continued speaking. "I have never felt this way toward anyone. In all honesty, it actually scares me. But what scares me the most is my failure to express how I feel toward you."

Lindsey's face slowly began to soften, and her frown soon disappeared. Tears dried on her cheeks.

"I didn't know how you’d feel about me coming back for you. Lindsey, being with you gives me so much joy. I came back because I can't bear to be far away from you. I came back because I … I … Lindsey, I love you."

Her face was filled with so much emotion, but I was unsure what exact emotion it was. I took her hands into mine. "You're beautiful, smart, independent … I've never met a woman like you, and I'll be a fool to deny how you make me feel." I stared into her eyes as I spoke.

The words were rolling out of my mouth and my heart. I didn't have to think hard about them. In fact, I was shocked at how expressive I was with her. Looking down at her, I couldn't resist the urge to kiss her anymore.

I leaned forward and touched my lips to hers, lightly. I was ready for her to step back then, but she just gently held on to my mouth with hers. I savored the softness of her lips. I had craved her touch for too long to care about anything else at that point.

Then, it was as though Lindsey had suddenly made a decision. She kissed me back with passion! Her arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me as close to her as we could possibly be.

I broke the kiss for just a moment, “So you missed me too, huh?” … and we both burst into joyous laughter!

My hands wrapped around her again. I pulled her closer to me, and just as I did that, she kissed me some more with the same passion. I wasted no time in lifting her off her feet and onto me. She wrapped her legs around my waist.

I headed for the stairs and her room. It had only been a couple of weeks since I left the Lodge, so I still remembered where to go. Without looking, I took her into her room—the place it had all began.

She was light in my arms. I didn't want to let her go even after we were in the room. We wasted no time stripping, and holding each other legs to lips like there was no tomorrow.

Chapter 28

Lindsey

Tothinkthathecame back for me was all too surreal. Minutes ago, I had been wondering what would happen when his memories began to fade, and then I was in his arms.

I was dumbfounded as he spoke of his feelings for me.

I wasn't alone! I was not dreaming after all! There really is something drawing us together.

I feasted my eyes on this beloved, strong man. Trev was right there, kissing me. The kiss reawakened my insatiable hunger for him, stronger than I'd felt for him before he left.

I wanted him to take me, and as if reading my mind, he lifted me with ease.

I hate to say it … But just like in those bawdy novels, I ripped the shirt right off him—buttons popping and all!

When he realized I’d ruined his shirt, Trev burst out laughing, and I joined him! He didn't seem to care about the shirt at all, except for getting it off. He tore off the rest of his clothes and mine!

He rasped, “You didn’t give away the clothes I left behind, I hope!” And again, we both laughed with great joy.

I love how free he is with his body and mind.

He stared at my naked body. I soaked in all the details of his.
