“Yes, Vanessa. Yes, you did.”

I slap a hand against my forehead and allow Aiden’s hands to fall from mine. “Oh my god. This is embarrassing. Even by my standards…”

Aiden’s laughing, and damn it all to hell, I wish the wrenching in my gut would stop so I could too.

***

A slow jazz number gently sways through the warm air as Aiden studies the menu. I should decide what I want to order too, but I’m too entranced in this fancy-as-shit restaurant.

“Is that woman wearing a tiara?” I ask, brows snapping.

Aiden follows my eyes to the table by the window. “Oh yeah, she’s here all the time.”

I give him a lazy look. “Is she actually a princess?”

He chuckles and the sound of his laugh is more beautiful than the soft music filling the dining room. I haven’t forgotten the fact that he said we’re going to fall in love tonight. I was stark naked when he said it, and knowing men as I do, perhaps that was the reason behind his declaration.

For now, I just watch him adjust the top button of his shirt, hoping he doesn’t loop it back through the hole. I’ve enjoyed sitting here, watching him twirl that single strand of hair escaping his chest around his finger as he chooses what to have for dinner.

“No, she’s not a princess,” he says, giving me a curious look that makes me twist my head to the side. “You’re the only princess here tonight,Princess.”

I can only give a lopsided grin before looking away with heated cheeks.

All I can think about is how much I want this man. It’s all happened so quickly, but I just want to pull him across the table and latch onto his juicy lips.Could I do that? He’s so damn handsome, and now his thick, dark hair is neatly combed to the side he looks even hotter.

“Do you eat seafood?” he asks.

I nod and as if they’ve been listening in, a waitress appears by the side of our table, clicking a pen ready to take our order.

Aiden looks at me. “Would you mind if I ordered for you?”

I shake my head. “Not at all.”

You can do anything you want for me.

As I dream about having Aiden’s warm hands all over me, I don’t notice the waitress pouring a fresh glass of red wine. Aiden lifts his glass and when he gestures in my direction, I snap out of the trance and clink my glass against his.

“How about we toast to crawling our way across the bed… And making it out of the apartment for dinner.”

He squeezes a cheeky wink that jumps across and hits me right in the pussy. Curse my attraction to beefed-up men. Just when I thought it was impossible for him to get any sexier, he goes ahead and proves me wrong again.

“To dinner,” I say.

Aiden sips the wine and rests the glass back on the table. He glances around the room, and I just watch him, shaking my head in amazement.

“You know… I would never have you pinned as a professional hockey player.”

Aiden shifts in his seat and focuses on me. “Is that right? And why’s that?”

I shrug. “You’re just different. You have a quality about you thattheydon’t have.”

His eyes widen at the harshness beneath my words. I can see his mind flashing with thought. He’s smart and intelligent and I know that’s going to be my downfall.

“Why do you hate us?” he asks.

“Us as in?”

“Hockey players. Athletes. You’ve sworn off them, right?”
