Ava has been to visit a few times this week, and I know she's concerned about team morale and the changes. But they played last week without Darcy and won; I'm sure they can do it again this week. And that is what I keep assuring Ava. She's working well with her new assistant coach, and I know she can help them bring home the win.

Andy turns around, grinning at me. "What?" she asks with a smile.

"I don't know, I just never imagined you as the domestic goddess type of girlfriend. But here you are, fussing over me."

"Well, don't get used to anything. Cause as soon as you're out of that sling, I'll be returning to my very undomesticated self. And then you'll owe me."

She comes to stand between my legs, and I pull her in, kissing down her neck. My good hand comes down to rest on her ass, giving it a squeeze. "I'm sure I can come up with all sorts of wonderful ways to make it up to you." I'm dying to get my hands on her body again. Being cooped up in the hospital has made for a very long week without her body wrapped around mine. Just because my arm is out of action doesn't mean I'm not craving her like crazy.

She giggles. "I'm sure you can." She kisses me.

There's a tap at the door, then heels clicking along the vinyl floor. "Looks like you're going to live," says Madeline with a friendly smile.

I'm more than a little shocked to see her. "Madeline, what are you doing here?"

Andy takes a step back from me, glaring at her like she's ready to shove her back out the door she just walked through. Madeline looks her up and down, flicks her hair over her shoulder as if dismissing her, then returns her attention back to me.

"I'm glad you're okay, Brad. I was so scared when I heard the news. I just wanted to pop in and give you these before I fly out." She places some papers down on the table in front of me. I glance over at them, and sure enough, it's the divorce papers, signed. "And I wanted to make sure you were okay, of course."

"You signed them?" I asked, stunned she actually did.

"Sure did. It became a necessity. I'm getting married again." She grins and flashes me her hand with an enormous diamond ring on it. I can't say I'm surprised she has found some other sucker to marry her, but it was faster than I thought it would be. I really couldn't care less. But I'm happy she has signed the papers so at least I can move on from that part of my life. And I won't be the one having to deal with her anymore.

I can hear Andy laugh from behind her. "What a lucky guy he must be," she says under her breath, but loud enough for us all to hear.

Madeline ignores her comment. "Good luck with it all," she says, waving a hand in Andy's direction. "Hope you don't wait too long and miss out on what's really important to you." She spins on her impossibly tall heels and strides out the door, leaving Andy looking at me. I know what she's thinking before she says it.

She comes to sit on the bed beside me, pushing my hair out of my eyes, staring up at me like she wants to be able to read my mind. "What are you going to miss out on if you wait too long?" she asks me in a quiet voice, like she's scared of what my answer might be.

Not really a conversation I'm ready to have with her right now, but I'm not lying to her either. "Having kids," I blurt out. "She thinks she knows what I want, Andy, but things change."

"Oh," she says, looking a little taken aback. And I'm not surprised. She's only twenty-four, kids would be the last thing on her mind.

"Andy, I'm not worried about that with you, okay? I know you have your career, and we can talk about all of that later."

She looks worried. "But she said it because she knows that's something that is really important to you, and you said it yourself. You nearly ended up with kids with her. You're a little older than me. I get it if you need to live your life now. If you can't wait for me to catch up. I don't want to hold you back."

"You really think I could walk away now?"

She shrugs.

"Andy?"

"No, I don't, but I don't want you to miss out on anything for me."

"I'm not going to. Right now, I just want to concentrate on us getting to know each other properly. The rest of it will come in the future."

She smiles up at me and kisses my lips. "That's what I want too. But just so you know, when the timing is right, I want it all with you."

I knew it already. I see it when she looks at me, feel it when our skin connects, but to hear her say it is music to my ears.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Andy

"Hey, Andy,"I hear Luna call as she walks into the kitchen from her bedroom.

"Yeah," I call over my shoulder, shutting the fridge. I don't really need to eat anything else, I shouldn't. I'm just so excited about today's final so I'm looking for a distraction.
