He swallowed. “Are you wearing any pants?”

She smiled slightly and raised her eyes to his. “I am. But…I’m not really wearing anything else.”

Jay swallowed again. His mouth had gone totally dry. A surge of heat washed over him, making itself felt in one particular spot.

“Clements… Soph…”

She lifted her face and looked him in the eye. Brave. Always so strong and brave. “There’s one more thing I need to tell you before I take this coat off.”

Jay’s heart was hammering. “What’s that?”

“I think… I think I’ve fallen in love with you.”

The whole world narrowed to Sophia, to the words she had just said, to the soft brown eyes so warm and fearful on his.

“Thank God for that,” he said, his voice thick. “Because I fell in love with you weeks ago.”

Sophia let out a breath that was half-gasp, half-laugh. Her eyes shone, and she blinked, rubbing them with the back of her hand.

“Oh no. Why do you always cry when you’re in my bedroom, Clements?”

She sniffed. “Because such wonderful things happen here.”

Jay’s heart crumpled right out of his chest. Shit. He couldn’t start crying too. He smiled a little shakily and came towards her. “Hold hands with me? You taught me the value of that.”

He took her hands in his and raised them to his mouth, kissing the knuckles of one and then the other.

“That was a good lesson,” Sophia said, sounding a little shaky too. “But there’s one we never got around to. You still owe me, Jay.”

“And you know I always repay my debts.”

Sophia brought his hands down to her waist. She set them on her belt buckle. “Untie me,” she said in a whisper that held a firm command.

His heart was thumping so hard he could hardly think. He began to work the belt buckle loose and Sophia reached up and began to unbutton her coat. They worked together, until it was all the way open, then Sophie shrugged it off and let it fall to the floor.

Jay looked her up and down. Nothing but pink lace underwear and golden skin.

“You said I should lose my virginity to someone I care about, who cares about me. You were right, Jay. And that person is you.”

Sophia

Sophia had to admit, she liked it when Jay was lost for words. And she liked the way he was looking at her, sort of starved but tender, grateful and serious.

She liked the way he looked, full stop. He was wearing a plaid shirt in shades of navy and russet. It showed off his broad-shoulders and lightly-muscled frame. She kept imagining how the soft brushed cotton would feel against her bare skin.

And still Jay was just looking at her and not moving. “Just to be clear, Clements,” he said at last, his voice a little husky. “I’d sleep with you whatever you were, or weren’t, wearing.”

She smiled slightly. Her first flirtatious smile. “I know. But I did this mostly for me.”

He dragged his eyes up her body again, looking almost pained. “I don’t deserve you,” he said, closing the distance between them as he spoke. “But I’m going to have you. Finally.”

He kissed her, and this time it didn’t start with light brushes, but with his lips full and firm on hers, his fingers twining into her hair with fierce tenderness.

One hand slid down her bare back to cup her backside and pull her hard against him. And she was right, the brush of his shirt on her bare stomach was divine, but she was already reaching under it, needing his skin, needing more.

Jay broke away, just as Sophia surprised herself by pulling his belt undone. “Wait a moment,” he said huskily, brushing hot lips down her neck. “I’m not getting Simon’s sloppy seconds, am I?”

She let out a shocked laugh and slapped him lightly on the chest, just as he slipped both hands inside her pants and palmed her arse, grinning wickedly down at her.
