“You’re the worst, Jay.”

“I thought I was the best,” he said, kissing a line along her jaw that made her lose her train of thought.

“The best and the worst.”

He smiled against her mouth as he kissed her lightly, then cupped her breast, running a thumb back and forth over her nipple as he asked, “So… Simon?”

“He’s…”

Sophia couldn’t think. Jay kept working that exquisite spot, making her dizzy with need.

“Hmm? I didn’t quite catch that, Clements.” The hand that was on her behind slid down further, between the back of her thighs, moving to dip gently in and out of her wetness. Sophia moaned.

“Tell me about Simon,” Jay said, voice low and amused, but with an edge of command to it. “Tell me why you’re here with me and not with him.”

“We… Jay…”

Both his fingers stilled. More seriously, he said, “Tell me, Clements.”

“We’re just friends. I thought… I thought I’d found a friend in you and something more in him…but I got it wrong. He’s my friend. And you’re…more. You’re everything.”

Jay let out a breath, his eyes closed. “I thought I couldn’t have you,” he whispered. “I thought I had to stand aside and see you happy with him. That’s why I had to get away, so I didn’t turn up at your door on my knees and beg. I didn’t want to get in the way, I tried to be the better man…” He opened his eyes and smiled with something like his usual villainy. “As you can imagine, Clements, the effort nearly killed me. I wasn’t made to be the better man.”

Sophia laughed. She took his beautiful head in her hands and kissed him, then shrieked as Jay picked her up and lay her down on his bed, pushing his half-packed bag off with a knee.

“I apologise in advance because my sheets stink of stale beer and male sadness. Housekeeping are avoiding me.”

She could smell only musk and skin. Jay stood over her, seeming to enjoy the sight of her lying on his bed. “I like that they’re not clean,” she said. “I like that they smell of you. You ought to have guessed by now, Jay, your whole bad boy thing kind of turns me on.”

Jay smiled crookedly. “I’m not a bad boy. I’m just an idiot. That’s all bad boys are.”

“Well. You’re my kind of idiot.”

“And you’re my kind of weirdo, Clements.”

“I thought you said I was perfect?”

“You are.” He smiled. “Perfectly weird.”

“That’s a strange way to talk to the girl you want to sleep with.”

“I’m fairly sure you want to sleep with me too.”

“I do. In fact, I’m not really sure why you still have your clothes on.”

Jay laughed then pulled his shirt off, revealing that beautiful set of muscles and long, lean male torso. He took the rest of his clothes off too, watching her watching him. Sophia looked at his naked body. The first naked man she had ever seen in real life.

She wanted to eat him. His body was long and lean and muscled. He touched himself as she ran her eyes over him, stroking his hand down his hard length like a promise. Then he moved onto the bed, kneeling down to kiss her.

“Sit up,” he said after a moment. She did, and he unhooked her bra. “Lie down,” he said. She did, and he pulled off her knickers and tossed them aside. He looked at her naked body the way she had looked at his, savouring it, loving it, committing it to memory.

“You are the most beautiful woman in the world,” he said.

“And you should know. You’ve tried them all.”

“Clements,” he growled, laughing. Then he kissed her, lying down next to her, pulling her thigh over his, touching and stroking her everywhere. He fingered her slowly, gently, until the aching need inside her was begging for more. “Jay, please. I want you, all of you…”

He didn’t tease her or make a joke but reached out for his bedside table while he kissed her and took out a condom packet.
