“Seems that way or they could be plants working for Hollis’ ass,” I growl, looking at the people sitting at the tables before getting out.

Basil and Malichi follow me to the door. Entering, I stare at the other customers standing in the aisles. Eyeballing each person as we pass them, I give them an evil look that has them scurrying away. I spot Deanna at the counter, laughing with a woman as she places two books inside a bag.

“Thank you and come again,” she tells her. Her eyes move from the woman to me. She smiles, waving.

When the woman walks away, I take her place at the counter.

“What the hell are you doing?” I fire off.

Deanna laughs. “What? Running my business?”

“Deanna,” I growl.

She comes from behind the counter, then grasps my hand. “I know you said to wait for you, but I’m used to my daily routine. I haven’t been open long.”

“That’s not the point, Deanna. You don’t know if any of these people in here are Hollis’ spies, watching your every move. And on top of that, you’re in here by yourself. You should’ve called me. I would’ve come back sooner.”

“Well, I knew nothing was going to happen once I peeped your men parked across the street and behind the building,” she reveals.

Raising my eyebrow, I ask, “And how do you know they were my men?”

“Because they have been there since last night after what happened. Plus, I have cameras around the building, so I watched you when you stopped to speak to them before you left.” She stands on her tip toes, then kisses my cheek. “Hi, Basil.”

“Hey, Dee,” he returns.

“Why is he here?” Deanna asks when she realizes Malichi standing next to Basil. I grip her hand tighter as she tries to get to him.”

“Calm down, Kitten. He’s here because he has something to say to you,” I tell her.

Malichi steps forward, then stops, making sure he was out of arms reach.

“I am so sorry for last night. Please accept my apology,” he genuinely says, giving her a small bow.

Deanna stares him up and down before stating, “Yeah, whatever. Where’s your friend he owes me an apology too?”

Malichi glances over at me. I answer for him, “I’m sure he would give it if he could.”

She looks as if she wants to ask more but Basil changes the subject, asking, “So, Dee do you think Zoe will drop by today?”

Deanna giggles, replying, “I don’t know but I can give her a call to see.”

“Or you can give me her number and I can call her myself,” he says waggling his brows.

I shake my head at his silliness.

“Sorry, but I can’t do that. I don’t give my sister’s number out without her permission. So, I’ll call her and see if it’s okay.”

“Thank you and don’t forget to remind her that I was the one with Yiorgos,” he happily says.

“Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go check on my customers,” Deanna informs us as she releases my hand, but I wrap my arm around her waist, pulling her to me. I kiss her soft lips, then whisper, “We’ll finish our discussion later.”

She bites her bottom lip, nodding her head as I let her go.

As I watch her ask a customer if they needed any help, Basil snickers, “You’re going to have your hands full with her, big brother.”

I grin, telling him, “At least they’ll never be empty.”
