Chapter 11

Deanna

Having Yiorgos aroundthese last few days has been amazing although his overprotectiveness can be overbearing at times. Like yesterday, we were talking on the phone before he went into a meeting, and I told him I was getting ready to go grocery shopping. Do you know he had his men follow me to the store and back? He was being too extra, but I did find it thoughtful that he cared about my wellbeing.

Basil was excited to find out Zoe agreed for him to have her number. The four of us are going out for dinner and drinks this weekend.

Yiorgos is still waiting on information on Hollis. I personally think he’s gotten the hint that I’m not interested in his offer because no more creeps have come to the store. Hollis hasn’t reached out to Malichi since he’s went rogue. Although he was a prick when we first met, Malichi is actually a nice guy.

It's Monday again and I have another forty-five minutes before I close the bookstore. With only one customer left in the store, I begin straightening up. Yiorgos is coming by later so I can cook him dinner. He hasn’t spent the night yet, but every night we’re together I want to jump his bones. It’s been a while since, as Zoe says, I’ve had my back blown out. I know Yiorgos wants it too because I’ve seen him adjust the large bulge in his pants a few times. I’ve already made it up in my mind that tonight will be the night we take this relationship to the next level.

“See you, Dee,” one of my regular customers, Dan says as he stands from the table he was sitting at. He waved the book he bought earlier.

“Bye, Dan. Have a great night,” I tell him as I wave back.

As he leaves out the door two men and a woman enter.

“Welcome to The Reader’s Cave,” I greet the group.

They ignore me as the woman and one of the men start to look at the magazine displays. The other guy walks around and picks up a book and starts flipping through the pages. I shrug their silence off. I’m used to getting those type of people in the store. It comes with the territory.

Going to the counter, I go behind it and spray the glass case with window cleaner, then wipe it down. The man with the book approaches, sitting it on the case.

“I’d like to buy this,” he says dryly.

Picking it up, I tell him, “You’re going to love this book. I’ve read it and it was good.” I scan the bar code on the back, noticing that he’s looking around the store like he’s examining it.

“This is a nice store you have,’ he states, putting on a smile that made me feel a little uneasy.

“Thank you. That’ll be fifteen forty-five,” I return, trying to hurry up our transaction.

As he pulls out his wallet the woman and other guy come up behind him. “You ever thought about selling it?” He asks, taking out a twenty.

“I would never sell my bookstore,” I state, taking the twenty from him.

Handing him his change, he lets out a weird laugh before saying, “You really should.” He picks up the book. I don’t need a bag.” He and the others walk away, then leave out the door.

Chills run down my spine. Could that have been Hollis? I make a dash to the door, locking it. Was Hollis bold enough to come in here? Pulling out my cellphone, I call Yiorgos.
