"This is so much harder while taking suppressants," Oakley whispers. "Here, let me hold you. Skin-to-skin contact is supposed to be the most effective method."

"I think that only works with newborns," I snap. "I'm so sorry. God, this hurts."

"Shh, no, don't apologize. Once this contraction stops I'm going to slide behind you on the couch. See if we can get these pheromones to do their job."

It takes what feels like forever, but my stomach finally stops feeling as hard as a rock. I don't know how much time passes after she slides behind me on the couch, but her pheromones do help to take the edge off.

I'm so tired, I think maybe I fall asleep for a couple of minutes. I don't know, but the gush of water from between my legs scares the hell out of both of us.

She continues to rub my lower back. By the time my brain processes what just happened, I'm sitting in a puddle.

"Oh, man," Oakley says. "All right, things usually move more quickly after the water bag breaks. Sorry, is it offensive to compare you to a cow?"

I actually laugh at that. I have to laugh, or I'm going to start crying.

Oakley doesn't fret that I'm sitting in a puddle of my amniotic fluid. Nope, this chick is hardcore. At least about things regarding giving birth. She pulls me back to rest against her chest and tells me stories about growing up on a ranch.

It doesn't take long for Jude and Dex to come back in. They've got their arms full of hand towels, and Jude has a first aid kit. Things are not looking so good.

"Your water broke," Jude says slowly.

"Maybe six or seven minutes ago," Oakley says calmly.

Dex slides up by our heads. "You're doing so well," he says, but he looks scared shitless.

"She had two contractions since that one," Oakley says to Jude. "I tried to count them out, but I couldn't keep up."

"Okay, thanks," he replies, pulling open a pack of gloves from the medical kit.

Time is hard to tell. The pain comes more frequently and lasts for longer. Jude keeps his hand on my stomach, and when it finally subsides he looks at me.

"I need to get your leggings off and see if I can tell if your amniotic fluid is clear. I also need to check how dilated you are when you're not having a contraction." He looks uncomfortable as he says it.

I shake my head violently.

No fucking way.

"I'm so damn sorry, Love," Jude says, crouching down near my hips. "I should have pushed for you to skip this one."

"Enough," I groan as my stomach painfully contracts. "Get me to a hospital."

Jude glances down at his watch. His hand rests on my stomach as it tightensagain. They're right on top of each other. I'm hardly getting a break to breathe before the next one takes over.

"I love you so much," Dexter murmurs close to my ear. "You're fucking amazing. A rock star at giving birth."

I snort. Holy shit, even that hurts. Blowing out a deep breath, the pain finally starts to subside. I can finally breathe again.

"I need to check you," Walker saysagain. At least he has the good sense to look apologetic.

"No way; take me to the hospital," I hiss.

Rationally I know it's not possible, but also Jude is not allowed to facilitate the birth of the human being trying to pop out of my snatch.

No way.

He'll never be able to have sex with me again.

Not that I'm doing that ever againin my life.
