She looked up and instantly placed her hand behind her back.

“Jackson. Hey. Hi,” she nervously spoke. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m picking up Georgia’s medication.”

“Oh. I heard. How is she? I’m going to call her.”

“She’s okay. Wait a while, though. She’s taking a nap. What are you doing here?” I narrowed my eye at her and then looked at the shelf across from us with the pregnancy tests on it.

“Nothing.” She bit her bottom lip. “Okay. Fine.” She brought her hand around and showed me the box with the pregnancy test in it.

“Really?” I smiled.

“I think so. Please don’t tell Shaun. I want it to be a surprise.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t say a word.”

“I really want to trust you, Jackson, but you guys are worse than us girls. You can’t keep your mouths shut for nothing.”

“Jen, I promise you I will not say a word to anyone, especially this kind of news. That’s for you and Shaun to tell us.”

“Thank you. I love you.” She reached up and kissed my cheek. “I have to get home.”

“I love you too. Good luck.”

“Thanks.” She smiled as she walked away.

After I picked up Georgia’s medication, I went upstairs to check on her. She was sound asleep and looked so peaceful. Setting her pill bottle on the nightstand, I went to the kitchen, grabbed a beer from the refrigerator, and took it outside to the beach, where Conner and Nathan were sitting around the fire pit.

“Hey, bro,” Conner said. “How’s Georgia?”

“She’s okay.” I sat down next to him. “She’s sleeping right now.”

“And how are you doing?” Nathan asked.

“I’m good.” I smiled. “Georgia told me she is definitely taking our last name when we get married.”

“I knew my Georgia sunshine would see the error of her ways.” Conner grinned as he patted me on the back.

“What made her change her mind so quickly?” Nathan asked.

“I don’t know. I think now that she knows what’s wrong with her, she thought about it. I didn’t ask because it doesn’t matter. We were in the middle of eating, and she just started sobbing out of nowhere, and that’s when she told me how sorry she was.”

“We’re happy for you, bro.” Nathan smiled as he held up his beer bottle, and Conner and I tapped ours against it.

“What’s going on over here at douchebag central?” Simon grinned as he took a seat.

“What the hell happened to your forehead?” I asked as I noticed the white bandage.

“I got into an altercation with a suspect who thought running instead of talking to us was a good idea. I tackled him and didn’t see the small pocketknife he had in his hand. That fucker reached around and sliced me.”

“Who stitched you up?”

“Your bro.” He smiled. “I went to the hospital and had him paged. I figured he hadn’t had the pleasure of stitching me up yet, so I thought it only fair that I gave him the opportunity. I didn’t want him to feel left out.”

We all laughed.

“You’re lucky that’s the only damage he did to you with that pocketknife,” Conner said.
