“Where was Grace?” I asked.

“She ran over as we were struggling, grabbed his arm, and broke it when he wouldn’t drop the knife.” He shook his head.

“That’s our Grace.” Nathan laughed.

“How’s Georgia feeling?” Simon asked.

“She’s napping right now. She’ll be okay. I just picked up her medication at the pharmacy.”

“Is she going to be okay to go to Disneyland next weekend for Ella’s birthday?” Nathan asked.

“Yeah. Of course. We’re both looking forward to it.”

“We all are.” Conner grinned. “She’s going to be one happy kid. When are you telling her?”

“The morning we leave.” Nathan smiled.

“Did you check with Christian and Charleigh to see if they have the weekend off?” I asked.

“Yeah. They’re both off.”

“It’s going to be a great family trip.” I brought the beer bottle to my lips. “I’m heading back to the house to check on Georgia. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.”

As soon as I stepped through the sliding door, I heard laughter. Walking upstairs, I saw Sofia and Ella sitting on the bed.

“Hi, Uncle Jackson. We brought Aunt Georgia some homemade cookies. Want one?”

“Hey, sweetheart. How about you save me one, and I’ll eat it later.” I smiled.

“Okay.”

“I’ll be downstairs if you need anything, babe.” I walked over and kissed Georgia.”

“Thanks, baby.” A beautiful smile crossed her lips.

I was standing in the kitchen, leaning against the island, and scrolling through my phone when Ella walked in.

“Uncle Jackson?”

“Yes, Ella?” I smiled as I set down my phone, picked her up, and set her on the island.

“You know my birthday is next week, and I’ll be seven.”

“I know, and you must be very excited.”

“The only present I want is to watch you perform brain surgery. Please, Uncle Jackson,” she whined.

“You know how your dad feels about that, sweetheart.”

“I know, and it’s not fair. He doesn’t understand how badly I need this. It feels like my brain is going to explode if I don’t watch you.”

“I’ll talk to your dad about it, and we’ll see if he’ll let you watch from the operating suite.”

Her brows furrowed. “No. I want to be in the operating room to watch.”

“I’m afraid that’s not allowed.”

“Yes, it is. If you get permission from Dr. Sutherland and the patient.”
