“That is a secret.” I winked.

“Okay.” She jumped up from her chair.

“Hold on a second. Let me go tell your dad. June, where is Nathan?”

“He’s in room five with a patient.”

I walked down to room five and lightly knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Nathan said.

“Sorry to interrupt. I need to go out for a while, and Ella is tagging along if that’s okay.”

“Sure, bro. It’s fine.”

“Thanks. I’ll see you later. Okay, kiddo. Let’s go.”

We climbed into my car and drove to the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“Why are we here?” Ella asked as I grabbed her hand and stepped inside the hotel.

“To see if a certain date is available for Aunt Georgia and me to get married here.”

“Oh. I hope it is.” She smiled up at me.

“Me too, sweetheart.” I sighed because I had a feeling it wouldn’t be.

“Good afternoon. How may I help you?” The woman behind the desk asked.

“My fiancée and I want to get married here. Whom do I speak to regarding that?”

“That would be our event manager, Mr. Russo. I’ll see if he’s in. Can I have your name, please?”

“Dr. Jackson Kind.”

“One moment.” She picked up the phone. After setting it down, she looked at me. “Mr. Russo said to have a seat in the lobby, and he’ll be with you in a moment.”

“Thank you.” I smiled. “Come on, Ella. Let’s go sit down.”

“Uncle Jackson?”

“Yeah?” I glanced at her as we sat and waited for Mr. Russo.

“Have you talked to my dad yet about letting me watch one of your surgeries?”

Shit.

“I haven’t yet. But I promise you I will. Uncles never break promises.” I winked at her.

She sat there and narrowed her little eyes at me.

“I got to thinking. You’re his older brother, so he has to do what you tell him. Just like my baby brother or sister has to do whatever I tell them.”

I chuckled. “I’ll be sure to tell your dad that.”

“Dr. Kind.” An older gentleman approached. “I’m Charles Russo.”

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Russo.” I shook his hand.
