We all replied yes, except for Simon.

“Simon?” Aunt Barb cocked her head.

“Yeah, Mom. Sure. Whatever.”

“Curtis and I didn’t go on the cruise together. He moved out of the house while I was gone.”

“What?!” Simon shouted.

“Simon.” Aunt Barb pointed at him. “Be quiet! Neither one of us was happy. It was a mutual agreement.”

“What changed, Barb?” Shaun asked.

She sat there in silence for a moment.

“Oh, my fucking God. You met someone else!” Simon shouted. “I know that look!”

“Yeah, Mom,” Stefan said. “That’s the same look you had when you met Curtis, and you were dating that other guy.”

“I did meet someone, but that’s not why we’re divorcing. I wasn’t happy. Curtis wasn’t fulfilling my needs—”

“Don’t say it, Mom!” Simon covered his ears.

“Emotionally or sexually.”

“Ah, shit.” Simon shook his head.

“Did this other man go on the cruise with you, Mom?” Sebastian asked.

“Yes. He did.”

“Who’s this guy?” Shaun asked.

“I’m not saying right now. You’ll meet him in due time. I want you to know that he makes me happier than any other man ever has.”

Simon rolled his eyes. “Of course, you’re not going to tell us who he is because you know I’ll have him checked out.”

“Exactly, son. You cannot go through life being unhappy. I don’t know how much time I have left on this earth, and I’m going to spend it fucking happy!” she raised her voice. “So, if you don’t approve, that’s your problem.”

I glanced over at Conner, and he looked at me with widened eyes.

“You need to do what’s best for you, Aunt Barb,” I spoke.

“Thank you, Jackson. Now, you boys will need to excuse me. I’m going to see the girls and my grandchildren.” She stood up from her seat and walked to my house.

“What the fuck?” Simon brought the beer bottle to his lips as he shook his head.

“I’m shocked. Just shocked,” Stefan said.

“Me too, bro,” Sebastian reached over and placed his hand on his shoulder.

“How am I going to tell Ella? She adores Curtis.” Nathan said.

“So does Lily,” Stefan spoke. “Shit. You know, I wanted to protect my kids from this shit. They should not be getting a divorce.”

“Are you really surprised?” Simon said. “I’m sure she’s been cheating on the poor guy for months. I mean, let’s be real. She went on a cruise with another guy while she and Curtis still lived together. You know the woman gets bored very quickly.”

“Maybe we need to pay Curtis a visit,” Shaun said.
