“Let me buy you dinner and drinks as a thank-you for the lift,” I said.
“You don’t have to do that, Jackson.”
“I want to. What do you say?”
“Sure. I’d like that.” He smiled, and a weird feeling washed over me.
We arrived at the Liberty, and luckily, we could get a table at Scampo, the Italian restaurant inside the hotel.
Good evening. My name is Claudia, and I’ll be your server tonight. Can I get you something to drink?” she looked at Grayson.
“I’ll have a single malt scotch, 17 years.”
“And for you, sir?” she asked me.
“I’ll have the same.”
“Two single malt scotches coming right up.” She smiled.
“You’re a scotch guy?” I picked up my menu.
“Yeah, and I see you are too.” The corners of his mouth curved upward.
“Are you sure your father isn’t Henry or Liam?” I cocked my head.
He let out a chuckle. “I’m sure. My father’s name is Ian. He’s a real estate mogul in Hawaii. That’s where we grew up.”
“Nice. Hawaii would be a great place to grow up.” I smiled.
“Yeah. It was. Where did you grow up?” he asked.
“Born and raised in Los Angeles.”
“Nice. Believe it or not, I’ve never been there.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah. Weird, right?”
Claudia walked over, set our drinks down, and took our order.
“Where did you go to medical school?” I asked him.
“Harvard.” He smiled. “Both Gabriel and I attended college and medical school there.”
“Nice.” I nodded. “And now you live here in Boston?”
“Yeah. I’m in the last year of my trauma fellowship, and Gabriel is a full-time internist at the hospital. You said you work at Cedars-Sinai, right?”
“I have privileges there. My brothers and I own the Kind Medical Center in Los Angeles.”
“Cool. What specialties are your brothers?”
“Conner is an orthopedic surgeon, Nathan is a plastic surgeon, and my other brother, Christian, is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Cedars.”
“Damn. I guess I didn’t realize there were so many Kind doctors out there.”
“My father was a cardiothoracic surgeon as well. His name was Dr. Liam Kind. He passed away. It’s been about three years now.”
