“My mother and my grandmother both had it.” I sighed.

“And now you do too. I already paged Dr. Hathaway, and she’s on her way down to see you. I know the two of you are friends.”

“Yeah. She’s an excellent endocrinologist.” I smiled.

“She’ll take over from here and get you feeling better. I have to be in surgery in fifteen minutes, so I have to run. I’ll check on you when I get home tonight.”

“Thanks, Christian.”

“Yeah. Thanks, bro.”

“Of course. I’ll see you two later.” He walked out of the room.

“I should have known.” I shook my head. “Do you know how many patients of mine come in with the same thing?”

“It’s always different when it comes to us, babe. At least we know now, and Dr. Hathaway can start you on a treatment that will get you back to feeling better.” He kissed my forehead.

Dr. Hathaway walked in, and after we talked and set up a plan, she discharged me, and Jackson took me home.

“What are you doing?” I smiled as he swooped down and picked me up.

“Carrying you upstairs to bed. You need your rest, and you’re not doing anything else for the rest of the day. You’re getting into your pajamas, and I’m ordering us some comfort food.”

He set me down on the bed, opened my dresser drawer, and took out one of my nightshirts.

“What kind of comfort food are you thinking?” I asked with a smile.

“Anything you want.”

“Maybe a buffalo chicken sandwich from Sebastian’s restaurant with an order of mac n cheese?” I grinned.

The corners of Jackson’s mouth curved upward. “I got you, babe.”

I changed into my nightshirt and climbed on the bed while Jackson called Sebastian and placed our food order. He walked back into the room and climbed next to me, holding out his arm for me to snuggle against him.

“I’m happy you’re going to be okay. You have no idea how scared I was,” he spoke as he pressed his lips against my head. “Please promise me something.”

“Anything?” I lifted my head and stared into his sexy blue eyes.

“Don’t hide anything from me ever again.”

“Listen, Jackson.” I sat up and faced him. “I never meant to hide it from you. You were going through so much with the situation with Christian. You had just discovered he was your brother, stolen at birth, and I didn’t want to add anything else. You already weren’t sleeping well.”

“And you listen to me.” He brought his hand up and cupped my chin. “Nothing and no one is as important to me as you are. If you’re not feeling good or something’s wrong, I want to know about it.”

“I’m sorry.” I took his hand and interlaced our fingers. “Same goes for you too.” My lips formed a smirk as I leaned over and kissed his lips.

“I’m going to go get the food.” He glanced at his watch. “I’ll be back in a flash.”

As I watched him walk out of the bedroom, I felt sadness. How the fuck could I have been so stupid even to think that I wouldn’t change my last name to his? I wasn’t in my right mind and hadn’t been in a while.

I climbed off the bed, and as I walked down the stairs, the front door opened, and Jackson walked in.

“What are you doing out of bed?” he asked.

“Am I not allowed?” I arched my brow when I reached the last step.

“I’d prefer it if you stayed up there and rested.” He set the food bag on the island and grabbed two plates from the cabinet.
