“Hello, you beautiful boy.” I smiled as he took his first breath and cried. “Congratulations, Mom and Dad.” I handed him over to Nathan so Sofia could see him.

“He’s beautiful, babe,” Nathan held Nicholas’ face against hers.

“Hi, Nicholas.” Tears streamed down Sofia’s face.

The nurse walked over and took the baby from Nathan so they could clean him up.

“Congrats, bro.” Jackson held his elbow out to Nathan because his gloves were full of blood. “Congrats, Mom.” He walked over and kissed Sofia’s head.

“Jackson, can you go tell the family that Nicholas is here?” Nathan asked him. “I don’t want to leave Sofia.”

“Of course.” He smiled.

The nurse handed Nathan his son, and he immediately placed him on Sofia’s chest.

“When can I hold him?” Sofia asked.

“As soon as I’m done closing you up.”

“He looks just like you, Nathan.”

“Another heartbreaker in the family.” I smiled.

While Sofia was recovering in the hospital, the girls and I put everything away, organized the nursery for her, and decorated the downstairs for when they brought Nicholas home.

“Where’s Jackson?” Conner asked.

“I don’t know. He said he had to go and pick something up, and he’d be back before Nathan and Sofia got home.”

The front door to Nathan’s house opened, and Jackson walked in carrying a large white box.

“What is that?” I asked.

“I thought it would be nice to welcome them home with a cake.” He set the box on the island.

“But we have all these cupcakes.” I pointed to the two-tiered cupcake stand.

“Well, as nice as those are, I thought a cake would be nice.

Conner walked over and whispered in Jackson’s ear, and he nodded.

“You the man, bro.” Conner grinned as he held up his hand for a high-five.

I opened the box and looked at the beautifully decorated sheet cake with the blue trim and a pair of blue baby booties made of icing, with the words: Welcome Home Nicholas.”

“You had Gwen make this, didn’t you?”

“Maybe.” A smirk crossed his lips.

“It’s key lime coconut, isn’t it?” I shook my head.

“Damn right it is! Let us have our cake, Georgia sunshine.” Conner grinned as he kissed my cheek and walked away.

“What?” Jackson said as I glared at him. “You have your little cupcakes if someone doesn’t like key lime coconut.”

“And what are we going to do with all this cake? Why on earth would you get a whole sheet cake?”

“Trust me. It’ll get eaten he grinned.”
