“Tell me how to do the damn spell to get to them, I’ll figure out the rest.”

“You still have the mirror which is probably a family heirloom just like your aunt said. It probably acts as a doorway. The anchor. You’ll need other crucial elements. My blood. Your blood. And the blood of the one who created the spell.”

My heart sunk.

“But since she is dead, her ashes will have to do. You have those, don’t you?”

I thought back to the urn in the shop with Aunt Naima’s name on it. Mika must have had her cremated. “Yes. I have it.”

“Good. Now, I just need a knife.” Finn held up his arm, showing his wrist.

“No, you don’t.”

Finn cried out in pain as I used my powers to cut through the skin on his wrist. Blood leaked from wound and onto the floor. “That was fucking rude.”

“It’s what you deserve. Dilly-dally any longer and I’ll slice through your throat.” I picked up a bowl and handed it to him.

“I like this side of you.” While his blood dripped into the bowl, he muttered a spell I didn’t know.

“That was it?”

“Yes, believe it or not, it’s quite a simple spell. The elements are usually what’s hard to come by.”

“How so?”

“Just think about. You and I hail from a powerful witch bloodline. Powerful enough to bind any spell. But as you are well aware and because history does repeat itself, we know that sometimes coven members do not always agree on certain things. The third element is what ensures successful execution. But how many people do you know would want to actuallyease the suffering or release the person they locked up in an eternal prison? Not too many, right? Thus the blood of the one who created the spell is often the most difficult to acquire.” He winked.

“This spell will get me to them, but if I have all of this, I should be able to reverse the spell and get them out, right?”

“I’ve underestimated you, Sadie. Perhaps this is really all you need for both spells. I held up my end though. These elements will reunite you with your devils, if you choose.”

“Of course, I choose.”

“Well, then…reversal might be in reach too…but then again…. Like I said, it requires considerable sacrifice.” He grinned.

“Just remember, if you’re trying to trick me, I’ll drag you back here. Mark my words.”

“Why would I trick you after you’ve shown me that you’re clearly as corrupt as I am. You—.”

“I’m not corrupt. I—”

“That’s what you say.I’m not trying to trick you.I’ll remind you once more of our agreement. You’re allowing me to walk out of here and you promise that your devils won’t come after me.”

“They didn’t kill you when I asked them not to, so they won’t,” I said.

“Good.” He started to back away.

“But Finn, just one more thing to make the bargain even…before I allow this…”

Finn rolled his eyes. “What, sister?”

“You took something from me in the cave. Something more than what I gained back by having three powerful demons linked to me.” I walked back and forth in front of him in the cell. “And I was thinking…I should’ve been able to stop the magic that swept my men away.”

“You think so?” Finn actually seemed amused by my optimism.

“What exactly did you steal from me in that cave?”

Finn threw her a shit-eating grin. “Just a little of your magic.”
