He states, "How we're getting in unseen." He accelerates toward the exit.

"We don't need that. I have a guy who can tap into the security."

"So do I. But we still don't need witnesses stating we're there for whatever reason," Kalim claims.

I ask, "You have an extra gun?"

His jaw twitches. He glances at me without turning his head and presses a button on the roof.

The gate lifts, and he drives past the security stand.

I mutter, "Let me guess. More Interpol?"

He doesn't answer and turns right.

"Gun situation?" I push.

He weaves past a semi, takes a sharp turn, and asks, "Assume you've shot one before?"

I grunt. "Grew up in Compton. This isn't my first rodeo. Where's it stored?" I open the glove box, but it only has papers.

He states, "I don't carry an extra."

"Why not?"

"Don't need it."

"Looks like you do now."

He shakes his head. "Better I stay in control of the firearms. We don't know what's going on, and Blakely doesn't need to see a bloodbath. That shit will haunt anyone, but especially her."

My pulse creeps higher. He's speaking rationally, but I still want a gun. I order, "Give me yours if you don't have a spare."

He scoffs. "You can go fuck yourself before I give you mine."

"It's my wife," I seethe.

He runs a red light and locks eyes with me. "And if he's done anything inappropriate, I'll be the first to shoot."

I study him.

He refocuses on the road. The tires squeal as he takes another sharp turn. He passes a dump truck and then cuts in front of it. A horn blares.

I tap my hand on my thigh, trying to push the bile down my throat. After what Colton admitted, there's no question I was right not to trust Noah. I curse myself for not choosing her agent and letting her pick him.

A few more minutes go by, and Kalim turns onto a side road. He veers to the curb, parks, and turns off the vehicle.

"Why did you stop here?" I ask.

He turns in his seat. "We don't know what's going to happen in there."

"What's your point?" I hurl, pissed he's wasting time.

He motions to a black van with no windows in front of us. "That's our entrance."

My phone rings. I answer, "Jones. Tell me what you found."

He declares, "He's in the city. I just sent the address."
