The color in Hugh's face drains. He puts his hands in the air. "Who the fuck are you?"

"You're on my payroll," Noah reminds him.

Kalim ignores Noah. He commands, "Put the alcohol down."

Hugh slowly puts it on the table.

Kalim demands, "Take five steps back and then stop. Keep your hands in the air."

Hugh obeys.

Noah shifts, his eyes on the floor. I glance over and lunge toward a gun, and so does he.

"Freeze," Kalim shouts, but neither of us listen.

I tackle him, and we both reach for the gun, gripping it at the same time.

Hugh shouts out, "You're going to kill us!"

"Don't move," Kalim warns him.

Noah and I roll around on the floor, each struggling to gain control, then I finally seize the gun out of Noah's hands. I slide it farther down the floor toward Kalim.

I tumble over Noah, pinning him to the wood floor near Madelyn's corpse. I curl my fingers around his throat, squeezing, seething, "What did you give her?"

His face turns red. He sputters, his body flailing under mine, attempting to escape my hold, but it's pointless.

All the rage and hate I've felt for him escalates to a new high. The uncontrollable demons inside me take over.

I move one hand off his neck and grasp his hair. I slam his head on the floor over and over and over. There's a loud crack, and his skull finally breaks. Blood pools around us, merging into Madelyn's.

Kalim shouts, "He's dead. Let it go, Riggs."

I can't. The demons won't allow me. I slam Noah several more times.

Kalim orders, "Enough! He's dead. Blakely needs you!"

Breathing hard, I turn toward her.

King Madden returns to whining. He jumps off the couch, stays beside it, and barks at me.

Hugh claims, "It was Noah. I didn't want any part of this."

"Bullshit, you fucking bastard." I rush over to the couch.

King Madden jumps at my feet. I reach for him, but Kalim says, "Riggs, go wash your hands before you touch anyone."

I stare down at the blood dripping on them.

I killed him.

A surreal feeling bubbles against my rage.

"Riggs. Now," Kalim demands.

I turn toward him.

He keeps his focus on Hugh, his gun still pointed at him.
