“I’ll have it checked for you. When?”

“Move in thirty minutes.”

Igor nods and then marches off across the grass.

I tap Alexsei on the shoulder. “Kit? Cabin? What are you talking about?”

“I have a cabin in the woods. Miles from here. Somewhere hidden for you to stay while you are pregnant. No one knows about it but me and Igor.”

“I’m not staying here with you?”

“Too dangerous. Until the cartel is dealt with, I need to know you are safe. There are weapons at the cabin, medical equipment too. Mrs. Aldova will provide your meals while I deal with Diego once and for all. I don’t like this. They gave up too easily. They might come back.”

“But I want to stay with you.”

“Not until I am sure it is safe. You are too important. You must protect our child. If the cartel finds out about your pregnancy, they’ll kidnap you, for sure.” He frowns. “What happened to Terry? Where is he?”

“I left him in the car, ran for it. What if Terry finds me out there?”

“No one knows the location but me and Igor, remember. You’ll be safe.”

“I’d be safer with you.”

“Come on, we must pack your art things.” He kisses me softly. “Do not be downhearted. You will be able to paint the views around the cabin. It is beautiful up there. You will love it.”

“What about you? What will you do?”

“I’ll visit as often as I can.”

“You won’t stay there with me? What if you get hurt?”

“I won’t.”

“How can you be so sure?”

He doesn’t answer, taking my hand and leading me inside. He fetches a couple of suitcases and sets them on the floor of the art studio.

“I want you to come with me,” I say as he folds the nearest easel so it’ll fit into one of the cases.

“I know.”

I tug at his hand. “Please, let your men handle this. I couldn’t bear it if you got hurt.”

“This is my duty,” he replies, pulling his hand free. “I must handle this or you will never be safe.”

“But you could get killed.”

“Then you will have everything of mine. I will ensure the Will makes that clear.”

“Don’t you care about dying?”

“I care about protecting you.” He grabs me, sliding his hands down my back. At once I melt into his grip, unable to fight him. He kisses me, his embrace deep, like he knows it may be the last one. “I must have you,” he mutters, pulling at my clothes, yanking my dress up to my waist.

“You are my wife. You saved me.” His kisses move to my neck, his hands in my panties, shoving them impatiently down my thighs. I wriggle out of them, letting his hands explore between my legs.

He grabs me and hoists me into the air, carrying me over to a lounge chair by the window. Lowering me onto it, he reaches into his pants, pulling out his cock. He strokes it slowly.

“Touch yourself,” he says, stepping back from me. “Give me something to remember you by.”
