“I’ll come back and see you tomorrow, okay?” Dimitri smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes.

“Go, he will be fine.” I nod to Koby before turning to leave. Knight has his gazed fixed on the Russian beauty behind me. I stop in front of him and ignore King’s heated gaze on me, I can’t deal with him looking at me like that.

“Knight?” He slowly flicks his gaze down to me but I can see he is taut with tension. I love Knight but not even I know how deep the damage my sister caused runs through him. It breaks my heart to know my sister could have preyed on a fucking child and destroyed his innocence. I hate Christine for doing that to Knight!

“I’m staying,” is all he says. I know this boy well enough to know that from the tone of his voice I won’t be able to change his mind, so I just nod and follow King out without a backward glance.

Chapter22

King

She follows behind me silently, I can feel her eyes boring into the back of me but ignore it. I know she has been through a fucking lot, but I also will not pity her and handle her like a child. She doesn’t need me treating her differently or covering her in bubble wrap. She needs me to give her something to use as an outlet. That’s when the idea begins to form in my mind. I know what I have to do in order to not only help Allison heal and deal with her trauma, but it will also help Kiara. I just need Bishop to get on board with this or I’ll be going against my Don and doing it anyway. I’ve never ignored an order from him but Allison needs this. My girl needs me to put her first and take into consideration her feelings and wants, and that is what I am going to do. We round the corner and head down the hall to my room but she pauses in front of Mela’s room—her door is slightly ajar.

“Did she ask about me?” Her softly spoken words hold so much hurt.

“Every second of every day.”

“What did you tell her?”

“That the bad men Daddy was away fighting found out he had two weaknesses. That because Mommy was so brave, they only took one instead of two of you.” A strangled sob escapes her. I dart forward to take her into my arms but she moves forward and enters Mela’s room. Not wanting to wake Mela I stand in the doorway and watch as Allison creeps over to her bed and stares down at our little girl. I cross my arms over my chest and lean against the door. Ally runs her fingers through Mela’s hair and smiles even though tears leak from her eyes.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to save us both.” My breath stills inside me. She places a tender kiss to Amelia’s head before marching out of the room and down the hall to mine. I pull the door closed quietly and hustle after Allison. I storm into my room and find her at the foot of the bed staring at the mess of sheets and pillows on my bed.

“I didn’t have time to clean up,” I mutter as I brush past her to try and make the bed.

“You mean hide the evidence of your whores being over?” I drop the pillow and gawk at her, has she lost her fucking mind?

“You want to repeat that?” I growl in anger. She tries to look unaffected but the hurt in her eyes betrays her.

“How many whores did you have in here?” Anger thrums through me—how could she fucking think that?

“Unless you are referring to our daughter as awhore, then none. Only she has been in here with me.” She flinches but I don’t give a fuck. How could she think I would do that to her? “What do you want me to say, Allison?”

“Nothing.” I can tell from the anger in her gaze she is pissed at me.

“Then why are you trying to pick a fight with me? Nothing I say is going to change what happened. I’m here trying to make it right, baby—”

“You can’t!” she screams. “You can’t take back what they fucking did to me! It’s your fault, it’s all your fucking fault and I hate you for it.” Sobs claw their way out of her, her shoulders and body tremble from the force. A good man would hold her and whisper words of love in her ear but I’m not a good man. I’m the devil’s kin. I stand here and watch as she tries to hold herself together and not break in front of me. “I… I need to…”

“You need to find an outlet?” She sniffles and nods, her hands gripping the hem of her shirt in a vice like grip. “Fine, I’ll give you the outlet that you need but you do it on my terms!” I make sure that my tone shows her I am not going to be swayed on this.

“Okay.” I nod and stalk past her to leave but her voice stops me in the doorway. “Where are you going?” I keep my back to her as I answer.

“You need time to process shit, Allison. You’re angry and have every right to be but you will not take it out on Amelia. The room is yours, I’ll sleep with Mela.” I close the door not wanting to hear her reply. Getting her back was supposed to have turned out differently. I knew she would be angry and blame me but I didn’t expect her to say she hated me!

Isituate Mela on the stool in the kitchen and fix up her breakfast. Kiara and Bishop walk in. When they spot Mela, they both smile brightly at my little girl. Bish ruffles her hair as he heads for the coffee pot, Kiara kisses the top of her head before claiming the stool beside her. Rook and Knight both walk in, neither of them wear a shirt and their hair is a mess.

“What are you makingusfor breakfast?” I playfully scowl at Kiara.

“I’m making Mela fruit salad.” Kiara pouts and looks at Mela with sad eyes causing me to roll my own.

“Meelz, Daddy won’t feed me and I’m hungry!” Mela gasps and turns her angry little gaze to me.

“Daddy, Aunt Kiara is hungry,” she admonishes me. I glare at Kiara who is grinning wide and shoots me a wink. Two can play at this game. I look at Bishop who is leaning back against the counter sipping his coffee.

“Bish, did you know Kiara has been training with Gage?” Kiara’s jaw drops and quickly turns to Bishop but he’s already glaring at her and squeezing the life out of his mug.
