I turned around and moved to the side so both Daphne and I could see how beaten-up Ban was. But we could barely see anything through the blood covering him.

“You will heal in no time,” I said.

“How cruel,” Ban chuckled.

But it was the truth. He was still standing, so any wounds he had must be mild enough that they would be able to heal in a few days.

I continued looking around the room. Victor’s people were still kneeling but Fabiana, who stood by the entrance door with two of our people flanking her, remained standing.

“Men, get Victor’s people to the prison,” I commanded. Even though they had submitted to us, we still had to judge carefully who really wanted to follow us and who didn’t. The place for these criminals was in the prison.

“Jaime, Hender, announce to everyone in the courtyard that Victor Moreno is dead. Hopefully, if they’re still fighting they’ll stop.” After Jaime and Hender had opened the front door to the castle for us earlier, they had shifted too and joined us in combat.

Jaime and Hender nodded. Most of the people in the room let themselves be escorted to the prison with dignity. Only Fabiana threw curses at me. Even in her defeated state, she didn’t understand her position. I paid her no mind.

We had won. Victor was dead. Now we needed to find and free Hanny, and then we could figure out how to nullify the implants on the ex-convicts’ necks. I had an idea of how we could achieve that goal. I had heard a bit about the magical technology binding the prisoners here from my father back when I had worked as his assistant. I hoped I could piece together the information I had gotten from him and figure out a solution.

Father had been very secretive about the technology but he had said the key was somewhere in the treasury. So, I would have to look for the key now and hope I would understand how it worked when I found it.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Esteban

Gabriel leaned down and picked up the set of keys that Victor had dropped when he had shifted. His large keychain held many keys which I assumed granted access to the important parts of the castle.

We wandered into the living quarters part of the castle. Gabriel found his room and opened the door.

“Holy crap!” He exclaimed when he entered. We came after him.

“It’s untouched,” I commented in awe.

The walls were still the same shade of green as they had always been. The yellow rug still dominated the floor with its brightness. Gabriel wandered to the wardrobe and opened it to see his clothes still just the way he left them.

“How?” he said in a shocked tone.

“Maybe because there were so many rooms belonging to the Torres family. Victor didn’t have the need for all of them, so he locked the ones he didn’t use,” I thought out loud.

Everything was covered by a thick coat of dust. The room hadn’t been cleaned the past three years but the fact that it was just the way Gabriel had left it brought happy memories to me. If we wanted to relocate back to Fort Torres, we could start again like nothing had changed.

Things couldn’t truly be exactly the same though, of course. I had no delusions about that fact. Our family was dead. However, there had been good changes too: forming our new family in Santuario, finding out Hanny was still alive, and last but not least finding our mate – our beautiful Daphne.

Gabriel took out a t-shirt, boxers, pants, and a pair of shoes, and got dressed. He handed me a pair of loose gym pants that fit me well enough. I hadn’t lived at the castle back then, so I had no clothes left behind here but we wouldn’t miraculously stumble upon a wardrobe full of clothes that would fit me in the village nearby of course, so Ban’s would do for now. Daphne got a large t-shirt that covered her all the way down to her thighs.

I wasn’t sure why we bothered getting dressed given that the castle was now full of naked people. The human side of us, however, had something called modesty which told us we should wear clothes in human form. So we obeyed that itch whenever possible.

“What do you think about what Kella said, Ban? Should we proclaim that we are the rulers of Isla Paraiso now?” Gabriel asked when we were dressed and wandered back out in the hallway. He locked the door to his room behind him.

“It would bring stability to the island that we wouldn't have otherwise and we will still give everyone the choice to leave. We will make it possible again. So if they don’t want to stay under our rule, they won’t have to,” I said.

“So, Kings and Queen of the island called ‘paradise’,” Gabriel gave us a wide grin.

Daphne shook her head. “Unbelievable.”

“What is?” I asked.

“I never thought someone of such a low status as myself would be the queen of anything,” she mumbled, blushing.

“You should have expected that good things would happen to you if you mated with two hot Alphas,” Gabriel joked.
