I hugged her back, resting my head on hers. "I told you, you can come home with me anytime you want."

"I know." She pulled away from me, smiling. "But it's late. I think I'll go to bed now."

I watched as she walked towards the bedroom door. "Sleep well, Scar."

"Goodnight," she replied, turning and opening the door.

As soon as the door shut, I turned to the mirror again, watching as Scarlett disappeared into the hallway. I rubbed my fingers over my eyes, yawning loudly.

"I'm tired. I should get some sleep too."

I woke the next morning to the sound of knocking on my bedroom door. I blinked the sleep from my eyes and climbed out of bed, my movements slow and sluggish.

The door opened and Scarlett poked her head inside. "Morning," she said cheerfully.

I groaned, rubbing my forehead. "You're alive."

"Yeah, you know me. Always happy to see you."

I rolled my eyes, walking over to the bedside table to grab a glass of water before heading to the bathroom. I splashed cold water on my face, wishing I had a toothbrush to clean my teeth.

"Tired?" Scarlett asked once I emerged from the bathroom.

"Very."

Scarlett grinned, pulling the covers back on the bed. "Come on, you've got to wake up. We're gonna be late!"

"Oh yeah." I sat down on the edge of the bed, stretching my arms above my head. "Late for what?"

"You'll see."

I frowned. "What time is it?"

"Six o'clock. Get dressed."

I groaned, sitting up in bed. "Do I even want to know what we're doing today?"

She laughed. "I promise, you will love it."

I wasn't sure how I felt about that. I knew Scarlett was the type of person who liked to keep things exciting. I hoped this wouldn't end up being another day spent running around town, looking for clues. I already had enough of those days in the past week.

"Okay, okay," I said, standing up. "Let's go."

"You are not going to change?"

"Nah. I'm fine like this."

When I stepped outside, I expected to see the sun shining down on us but instead, the sky was grey and cloudy. I shivered slightly as a cold breeze blew over me, causing me to pull my jacket tighter around myself.

We started off walking down the street, heading towards the city center. The buildings were all dark and quiet, with only a few people on the streets. It was early, and most people were probably sleeping off their hangovers from the night before.

"Where are we going anyway?" I asked, my feet shuffling along the pavement.

Scarlett smiled at me, her cheeks red from the cold. "Just wait and see."

I rolled my eyes, following her lead as we continued our walk.

After about ten minutes, the buildings began to change. The shops and businesses became bigger, housing larger chains than the ones we usually saw in the small market town. There was also more traffic; lorries and cars zooming down the road, honking their horns as they went.
