"And you invited me to meet them?"

"Yep," she said, sticking her hands into her pockets and rocking on her heels. She bit her lip as she waited for me to follow.

"All right, let's go," I mumbled, reaching out and tugging on the chain that hung from the gate. It was rusted and thick, making it difficult to budge. When I finally managed to pull it open, I found the entire area covered in weeds and dirt. It looked abandoned and forgotten, a perfect hiding spot for anyone who wanted to disappear.

Scarlett walked through the entrance without hesitation and I followed her in. The inside was dark, lit only by the dim light coming from the doorway. There were no windows, leaving me feeling uneasy as I tried to navigate my way through the darkness.

I stumbled into a pile of trash, catching myself on the wall as I did so. A strong stench hit my nostrils and I wrinkled my nose. A faint buzzing noise came from somewhere around me, becoming louder as I moved further into the building. It was a strange sensation, like the hairs on my arms stood up.

I held onto the wall for support, my eyes darting around the room as I tried to figure out where the noise was coming from. The buzzing was getting stronger, filling the warehouse with an uncomfortable presence. I could feel it in my bones as if something watched me.

"Do you hear that?" Scarlett asked, appearing beside me. She leaned against the wall, placing her hand on mine.

I nodded slowly, letting out a sigh. "Yeah. I've never heard anything like that before."

Scarlett laughed. "Me neither."

"So, who was this person you met?" I asked. "Is this why you dragged me out here?"

Scarlett shrugged. "Sort of, maybe?"

I narrowed my eyes at her. "What's going on?"

"You'll see."

I rolled my eyes but didn't bother arguing. She seemed anxious to see whoever this person was, so I decided to humor her. I followed her deeper into the warehouse until we reached the center of the building. There was nothing there except for a large open space with a stone floor.

"Here we are," Scarlett said, stepping aside and gesturing towards the open space. "Have a seat."

I frowned, glancing around the room. "Now?"

Scarlett shrugged. "Why not?"

I sighed and walked across the room, sitting down on one of the crates. I pulled my legs up underneath me, resting my arms on my knees as I stared off into the distance. Scarlett sat down beside me, leaning back against the wall and crossing her legs.

"So, who is this person you met?" I asked.

Scarlett grinned. "I'm glad you asked. You'd be surprised."

I furrowed my brows. "Am I?"

"Let's just say he knows a lot about us."

"Us?"

"Yes."

"Why would someone know about us?" I questioned. "Like, specifically who we are?"

Scarlett shrugged. "I don't know, but that's not the point. He knows things about us, and he wants to share his knowledge. That's all I needed to hear."

I snorted. "That's all? What else do you need?"

Scarlett pursed her lips together. "Nothing. Not yet anyway."

I raised my eyebrows. "You're sure?"

"Positive," she replied with a nod.
