I stood up from my chair without saying a word and went to the window to see whether anyone was there. A night out with the boys wasn't my idea of laying low, but I couldn't turn down the invitation. My absence at the bar the last couple of nights would have seemed even more suspicious if I had.

"Where are you going?" Scarlett asked, looking worried.

"A night out with the boys," I replied, checking the time.

"Sounds like fun," Grayson said as he flipped through the pages of a book.

"We will see. My night out with the boys was how you two ended up here."

Grayson immediately looked up from the book, unable to hide the fear on his face. "Does that mean that they know where she is?"

"I don't know, but if I want to get any more information about where they have Kane, they have to believe they can trust me."

Grayson stood up from the sofa, walked over to Scarlett, and took her by the hand.

"Come on, Scarlett."

"Where are we going?"

"To the attic. It's not safe down here for you."

Scarlett looked at me then followed Grayson out of the room without saying a word. My stomach was twisted in knots as I waited for Doyle to arrive. The fear that they had discovered that Scarlett was with me only added to my anxiety.

Blaise would start asking questions about Samuel any day and I had nothing to tell him. The idea of betraying my horde wasn't something I took lightly. It was a dangerous choice and I hated to have to make it. I knew I would be putting my own life at risk if I did. The only way to guarantee my safety was to betray Scarlett and Grayson. That wasn't something I was prepared to do either.

Doyle seemed to be in a good mood when I got into his car but wouldn't say where we were going. The drive didn't take long and within minutes we pulled up in front of the restaurant. I looked at Doyle, who had a smirk on his face and suddenly felt uneasy.

As we walked to the door, I couldn't help but notice the number of cars in the parking lot. My heart beat wildly inside my chest, making me nauseous. Inside a group of men gathered around at the table where Blaise usually sat alone.

"You're here," Blaise announced, "We can finally start. Come over and have a seat."

My chest felt tight and I struggled to catch my breath as every head turned to look my way. I took a seat at the table. Doyle sat down beside me while we waited for Blaise to speak.

He looked over the group of men with a curious look that made my anxiety grow.

"I am sad to inform you that our friend has been unwilling to talk. He claims to have no knowledge of who the new queen might be, and I have grown tired of his company. My first instinct is to rid myself of this nuisance but unfortunately, I can't do that just yet."

My pulse sped up even more, and my vision began to blur. If Kane was still alive, he wouldn't be for much longer. The group of men started shouting for Blaise to do away with him once and for all.

"If he dies, the identity of the new queen dies too until she chooses to reveal herself. By then, it will be too late. She will have grown too strong and may have already chosen her mates."

The crowd grew silent, shocked by Blaise's revelation. I clenched my fists, fighting to keep myself composed. He walked over to me and stood in front of me, staring me straight in the eyes.

"Do you know who these men are?" he asked me, nodding towards the men.

I shook my head.

"They are some of the most loyal men I have ever met, and I am deeply thankful for their loyalty. They are the ones I trust most with all my heart and soul," he said without breaking eye contact.

My breathing became ragged and my palms started sweating.

"I had hoped that you would be one of them," he continued, "Can I count on your loyalty?"

I nodded, hoping that he couldn't see the terror in my eyes. He smiled before turning around.

"Let the games begin!" He called out.

All of the men quickly got to their feet. I turned to Doyle, who was standing next to me smiling.
