"What's going on?" I asked, confused and growing more nervous.

"It's your initiation," he responded proudly.

"Initiation?" I asked, scared of the answer.

"Yes. You will go against them, and they will try to kill you."

"What!?"

"Don't worry. You will do fine. Just don't die and you will be one of us."

There was silence in the room for a few seconds until I heard a roar coming from outside the building.

"Time for the fight!" Blaise shouted.

I could barely process everything happening. Before the men outside could reach me, someone grabbed me. I fell to the floor, hitting my head. The room started spinning then everything went black.

When I came to a few minutes later, my head was pounding, and the crowd of men had disappeared. I laid on the floor, waiting for my vision to clear and my ego to recover.

My head was still pounding the next day and I spent most of it in bed, replaying the events of the night before in my head. Blaise's insane rant about the new queen had me worried.

It was mid-afternoon before I ventured out of my room and found Scarlett rifling through the cabinets in search of something to make for dinner.

"I can go to the store and get some food," I said.

She turned to look at me, her smile fading at the sight of my bruised face.

"Drako, are you okay?" She asked as she rushed towards me to examine my injury.

"I'm fine. I just tripped and hit my head on something. It was more embarrassing than anything else."

"Are you sure? That looks like it hurts."

"The only thing that really hurt was my pride. It's nothing. We can talk about it when I get back from the store."

I kissed her on the cheek before heading out the door. On my way into the store, I caught a glimpse of a man dressed in a black suit. I followed him for a minute to get a look at his face so I could see whether it was the man who had knocked on my door. The man turned the corner into an alley. I sped up to get closer to him but when I turned the corner he was gone. I looked down the alley and saw no sight of him, so I turned to go back to the store. There was something about him that made me feel uneasy, but I wasn't sure what it was.

The man in the black suit appeared again, causing my stomach to turn. He looked different this time around, his hair was shorter, a few strands of brown framing his face. I watched as he walked over and stood beside him. They talked for another moment before the other man said something, nodding and making eye contact with me. I stared at him with wide eyes, I hadn't seen him around for some reason.

One of them had to be Sam.

I tried not to stare as they began walking away. His steps were light and quick while the other man's were more sluggish than usual. For a moment, I considered following them but there was no point in it. I had already decided that Sam was none of my concern. It would just cause unnecessary trouble if I did end up following them and ended up getting caught.

That is, unless I managed to somehow find out where they were heading next. Which I doubted.

Neither man seemed very dangerous. It left me feeling confused as to what Blaise was so worried about. I shook my head and focused back on my phone. There wasn't really any use worrying about things beyond my control now, anyway.

I glanced up at the sky. The sun was beginning to set; I wondered how long I had been out here by myself for?

Before I could dwell too much on it, I heard someone shout my name. My heart jumped at hearing it and I turned to see Doyle walking towards me.

"Hey, man," I said "How's it going?"

"Good." Doyle replied "Just checking in to make sure you're okay and all. You know how it is." He laughed and gave me a half smile, like he knew exactly what was running through my mind.

He nodded in the direction of a car that had pulled up; it was the only one on this street right now. I glanced over at it and saw Damon behind the wheel. My pulse quickened as he glared at me through the open window.

"I'm fine," I replied, worried they knew about Scarlett.
