"That's good," he replied, taking a step closer to me.

Beads of sweat began to form along my hairline as my eyes darted from him to Damon, who was now standing next to his car. His gaze was still trained on me, and though he couldn't hear my thoughts, I imagined his own were racing along just as fast.

"What are you two doing out here?" a new voice asked, startling us both. My gaze shot to Damon's side, where Blaise stood, watching us intently.

"I was just waiting for Damon," Doyle said " I ran into Drako on the street."

I looked back at where the men in the black suits had just been, but they were gone. I felt stupid, I should have known that they were going to catch on. I glanced at Blaise to see him looking back at me curiously.

"Did you have fun tonight?" he asked.

Damon scoffed next to us, and Blaise looked at me again. He didn't seem upset, so I assumed he didn't notice that we were being followed.

My gaze flicked between the three of them before focusing back on Blaise "Yeah, it was good." I said.

Doyle grinned at me and slapped my shoulder playfully, causing me to flinch. I looked away, feeling embarrassed by the reaction.

"Don't get used to it," he warned, "You'll never make friends if you keep acting all weird and standoffish."

Damon snorted beside me; his eyes still glued to mine. My heart raced faster.

"Anyway," Blaise continued, glancing between the three of us, "I need to speak to Doyle and Damon. We will catch up with you later, Drako."

Blaise slapped me on my shoulder, knocking me forward and chuckled as he walked away. Damon looked back at me as he got into his car, but still hadn't said a word. His demeanor had me worried. I knew he didn't trust me, and it was only a matter of time before he voiced his concerns to Blaise. As they drove away, I wondered how I would get myself out of the mess I had created or whether I would end up dead before getting the chance to try.

Chapter Sixteen

Grayson

Being stuck in Drako's attic was driving me crazy. It had only been a couple of days but the thought of being trapped there any longer was torture. Drako had confirmed that Shadow Crest was behind Kane's disappearance and, since then, we hadn't gotten any closer to getting him back.

I sighed loudly, my eyes falling shut as I lay down on the sofa. I'd been waiting here for hours for Drako to return. Unable to take it any longer, I decided to see if I could get ahold of Henry. I sent him a text, which he replied to immediately. He wanted me to meet him at the same place we had met originally.

"Scarlett!" I yelled, getting up from the sofa.

"What's up?" She asked, walking into the room.

"I'm going to go talk to Henry. Will you be okay until Drako gets back?"

"Of course. Why do you need to see Henry?"

"I want to know whether that was him who showed up asking about you or whethe it was just some weird coincidence."

She nodded, looking worriedly at the clock.

"Okay. Don't stay out too late."

"I won't. Call me if you need me." I smiled at her before heading downstairs.

The sky looked gray as I walked outside, and I looked up at the gathering clouds. It would be storming soon and that meant I had to hurry.

Drako's house was closer to the abandoned building than the motel was, so it didn't take long for me to get there. The thick humid air swallowed up the city, leaving me drenched in sweat.

I arrived at the abandoned building, where Henry was already waiting for me. Outside I could hear the wind start to pick up and worried I would get caught in the storm.

"I wasn't sure whether you were coming with the storm on its way," Henry said as I walked toward him.

"Well, hopefully, it waits a little longer before it hits.
