"You should probably leave too." Kane said quietly after she left the room.

I nodded my head in agreement before walking out of the room. My head was spinning, and I needed some air. As soon as we stepped outside, I felt the breeze brush across my face. It carried the scent of the water nearby. My feet unconsciously dragged themselves toward where it was. After walking about ten yards away, I stopped dead in my tracks.

As if it were an instinct, I heard footsteps coming towards me. They slowed down once they reached me. I looked up to see Henry standing there.

"Henry... Where did you come from?" I asked breathlessly.

He shook his head slowly. "How could you know?"

"Know what?"

"The truth. I had assumed that you were aware of the Queen's intentions, but it is clear that you had no idea."

"No, of course not! How could I?"

"Even the strongest minds can slip up sometimes. A simple mistake, or an omission. This is what happened with me, and that's why I had to hide the truth."

"What do you mean?"

"This plan of hers seemed farfetched and I'm sorry to say that I doubted her when she told me it, but she pulled it off just like she said she would."

"Are you... Are you telling me that this was all a part of your plan?"

"Not really..." His voice trailed off as he averted his gaze. "Not my plan anyway."

"What do you mean?"

"The queen was manipulating us the entire time, even before she revealed her true nature to us. She wanted to win."

"Win?" I questioned skeptically.

Samuel sighed deeply.

"There was something strange going on here. I've sensed the danger that surrounds her for years and yet... For the first time, I actually believed it."

We fell into complete silence. I stared ahead of myself with my mouth opened slightly. Samuel continued talking.

"She knew the Dark One would come for her. I guess she decided that she would rather find him before he found her."

"And you didn't know any better?"

"If I had told her that, she wouldn't have listened. All she cared about was finding the Dark One and getting rid of him before he could get rid of her."

"How exactly did she plan to achieve that?"

"Exactly the way she did."

"Wait a minute... You mean she wanted all of this to happen? That she was manipulating us all this time?"

"Yes. She made us believe that she didn't have control over her powers, and we put our trust in her, believing that she needed our protection."

"Did you believe in it?"

"Yes. Yes, I did." I said in disbelief, "How long ago was this planned?"

"It doesn't matter," he replied. "All that matters now is that it worked. We all get to live to fight another day and she now has found her powers."

"But..." I tried to protest, but my words got caught in my throat.
