“Alex,” she said again.

His breath beat on her face as he pounded into her, giving himself to her desire.

She wanted his mouth on hers, to envelop herself in him. To live there with him, in him, as a part of his being, an extension to him.

“You feel so good.” She inhaled a sharp spear of pleasure. “Like that. Shit. Oh, Alex!”

Calling for him as she tumbled into climax, she couldn’t get enough air into her lungs. All life came from him and flowed through her as ecstasy completed her circle.

“Oh, Alex,” she panted again, her chest expanding with each deep breath.

He lay at her side and scooped her head closer to kiss her temple. His struggle seemed as real as hers. In the bliss of their bubble, no one rushed them, nothing was urgent. They just lay there, in silence.

“I’m not sure that was real,” he muttered.

Maybe it was a dream. Maybe they weren’t really there. If that was the case, she still wanted to stay. Providing he was around, that was all she needed.

“I’ve never been happier,” she whispered as the truth dawned on her. “That’s crazy.” Exhaling a laugh, her lips curled, and she shifted her head to face his profile. “I have no job. No apartment. Nothing is for sure except…”

When she didn’t follow up, he turned his head in the pillow to look at her. “Except…?”

“You.” Scooting closer, she rested a hand on the center of his chest. “I always wanted to be secure, completely secure, in a relationship. I didn’t want tension and uncertainty.”

“There’s no uncertainty here.” With his forefinger, he caught a tendril of her hair to hook it behind her ear. “And anything you want, you get. Such as…”

Rolling away from her, he leaned over the edge of the bed to get something from the floor. The binder.

“What is in that? Will you tell me what I signed now? Please? You didn’t buy us an island, did you?”

“You want an island, I’ll get you an island.” He unzipped the leather. “But this is a transfer of ownership.”

Where was he going with this? “Ownership of what?”

“You are now the proud owner of your very own marketing company.”

“A marketing company?” He handed her the binder and she got her first real look at the paperwork inside. “Viva…” Her attention jerked to him. “You bought Viva?”

“For you,” he said, leaning over to kiss her hair then propping himself on an elbow.

“You bought the whole damn company… for me.”

“I need a second to process this,” she said, sitting up to lean back on the headboard. “Is it too early for wine?”

He laughed and sat up next to her. “You want wine, you get wine.”

“I can’t believe you did this, that you bought… Why?”

“Why not?” he asked. “They fucked you and I am more than happy for you to fuck them… figuratively speaking.”

His smile suggested a tease, but she was just… in shock. “You bought it so I could ruin it?”

“You can do whatever you want with it, Button. Run it, delegate it, lay off the people who laid you off. Whatever you want.”

“If they’re laying people off, doesn’t that suggest they’re not a sound investment?”

“Sometimes it’s not what they are, it’s who they are. Most any ship will run aground eventually if there isn’t a skilled captain at the helm. If you want to make it work, we’ll make it work.”
