Finally, Zander recovered and ribbed his brother again. “Isn’t that the chick you went on a date with?”

My thoughts sputtered. “What chick?”

Misha looked up, pulled the joint before handing it back over to his brother and threw his phone into my lap.

Fuck me.

Two girls hugging, big smiles, drunken stares.

“You went on a date with her?” I asked, hopelessly trying to cover up the jackhammering of my heart as I looked at my stepsister. Christ, Dita looked beautiful.

Misha shrugged, leaving that question unanswered.

“Finally noticed Steph then, huh? Took you long enough.” I smirked. It wasn’t a secret she had an unanswered crush on him ever since she got rid of those braces six years ago.

“Zander wasn’t talking about Steph.” Misha said, confused. “And what the hell? She’s my best friend, of course I notice her.”

Moron.

But if they were talking about someone else then Steph…

She never told me this. Dita. For fuck’s sake, she made me lose my mind. “I told you to stay the fuck away from her!”

Misha rubbed his forehead, pinching his eyes closed to get that fogged up mind of his rolling. His stoned brain had trouble keeping up. “Dude—”

“When?” I interrupted him. “When did you see her again?”

Zander whistled, and I knew without even glancing at Rio, that my twin thought I needed to calm down.

“Down, boy.” My brother patted my knee while Misha leaned forward and said, “No, Ares. What I meant to say was that it truly didn’t matter. No idea how you got a girl like her to want your moody ass but I didn’t stand a chance whatsoever.”

I blinked, pathetically grappling for validation. “She told you that?”

“She didn’t use as many words but, yeah. You two… No clue how you thought to keep this a secret, but you guys sucked at it, A.”

Rio snorted. Zander’s disoriented eyes ping-ponged between the three of us.

“Well,” Zander joined. “If I had a stepsister looking like that, I would’ve locked her up in my bedroom twenty-four seven.”

I narrowed my eyes and mumbled, “Shut up.”

I studied Steph’s latest Instagram post again. Dita’s hazel eyes looked right into the camera, and she looked like she’d gotten over me. Fast. Way too fucking fast.

I checked if Steph had tagged the location. She had.

Salsation.

I was going to make her mine again. I didn’t care how long it took to get there. I couldn’t care less which actions I needed to undertake.

Dita belonged to me.

I clashed my eyes with Misha, who pulled his eyes wide and sat upright when he saw my grim expression. His phone landed back in his lap before I walked back inside with a plan. One to win Dita over for good this time. I told them, “Put on your dancing shoes, shit faces. Let’s go.”

They all stumbled into Rio’s car. It was best he’d drive since Zander and Misha weren’t going to get sober anytime soon, and my head was clearly in war zone.

Inside the club, it was cozy and dark. Dimmed lights streamed from the ceiling, illuminating writhing bodies to R&B

I hated this type of music, but I had to admit, it was like this had been staged. The dancefloor was packed. Couples danced, making love with each other on an entirely different level of intimacy.
