She laughs. “Yes, really!” She hugs me again. “Now get out of here and tell your man the good news. I’ll finish up.”

I get my things together and leave the club. I know Hawk is at the clubhouse tonight, so I get in my car, start the engine, and head on over. We had planned to meet up after I got off work anyway, so he would expect me, just not this early.

When I get there, the parking lot is packed. I’m curious why there are so many people here and then I remember Hawk saying they were expecting friends from New York. Probably not the perfect time to tell him I’m having his kid, but I need to tell him and tonight is just gonna have to do.

I park my car, cut off the engine. I grab my pack and get out of the car, heading for the door. “Hey Sam!” I hear a voice calling. It’s Ice.

“Hey Ice, whatcha doing out here?”

He laughs. “Just enjoying the quiet for a minute. I’m always up for a party, but got some things on my mind and needed some quiet to think.”

“I imagine it’s not always easy being the boss.”

He shrugs. “You got off early tonight?”

“Yeah, Callie said it was slow and let me go. Said she would cover the bar and clean up.”

“Now that’s a great boss.” He laughs.

I love punch him on the shoulder. “You are too. I see how the guys respect you.”

“Thanks.” He takes a hit of his cigar. “Now get inside and surprise that man of yours. He’s been moping all night.”

I laugh. “Yes, sir!”

I walk inside the clubhouse, and there are people everywhere. Tiny is working at the bar and running like a chicken with no head. I head straight for the bar, drop my purse behind it and jump in to help him.

“Damn Sam, thanks!” He washes out a glass. “I sure could use the help.”

“You got it!” I reply. “What can I do?”

Tiny thinks for a minute and says, “I need two shots of Jack and two Budweisers for the crew talking to Hawk.” He gestures to the other side of the room by Ice’s office. “Treat ‘em nice, they are our special guests.”

“You got it.” I quickly prepare what he needs, load them up on a tray, and walk to Hawk. “Good evening gentlemen, so who gets the shots?” I’m sure one of them is for Hawk, cause he loves Jack Daniels.

He smiles at me and says softly, “What are you doing here?”

I wink at him as I hand him his shot. “Got off early. I’ll explain later. Right now, Tiny desperately needs help.”

He smiles. “The other shot goes to Michael.” He points to a very handsome man.

Definitely not a biker. “Michael Vitali, this is my girl, Samantha Manero.”

Suddenly, every hair on my body prickles. Did he say Vitali?

My heart beats as if it is going to jump right out of my chest and I am having trouble breathing. I drop the tray on the table and all I can say is, “Please excuse me,” and I run to the ladies’ room.

Once inside, I grab my phone from my pocket and call Susie. She answers on the second ring. “OMG, Susie, you will not believe who is here!” I am panicked, and she will know something is wrong with my high-pitched voice.

“Sam, calm down. Breathe.”

I take two big deep breaths and say, “Michael Vitali is here talking to Hawk only twenty-five feet from me. What do I do?”

“Sam, he doesn’t know who you are. You have a different name, you look different. Hell, hun, you were sixteen years old. He will not put it together. And besides, I’ve been trying to tell you this for years. He’s not after you, he was after your dad.”

“Yeah, and my dad is dead. I’m sure they killed him and mom.”

“Your parents were killed by a hit and run drunk driver. That is not the mafia style hun. It was an accident.”
