As I say the words, her attention turns to the wall of windows. She walks to the glass door that leads out onto the spacious deck. She slowly walks outside and takes in the view. We face the national park, so instead of seeing bright lights from the towns below or other cabins, we see nothing but mountains. Mountains lined with beautiful trees of red, yellow, and orange.
“It’s gorgeous,” she whispers.
“Makes you appreciate nature, doesn’t it?” I ask.
She nods. “I’ve never seen so many trees in one place before. Sure, California is beautiful, but not like this…at least not where I was. This is spectacular.”
“I have a confession to make,” I blurt out.
“What? Are you going to tell me none of this is real, and I’m in some sort of weird virtual reality experience?” She laughs.
“No, it’s all real, I promise. But I brought you here under false pretenses.”
Her brow furrows, but she doesn’t say anything.
“I told you we were coming here to work. I told you that we had a meeting with a potential client, but that’s not entirely true,” I say. “I just wanted to do something special for your birthday.”
She’s quiet for a moment. “You did all this for my birthday?”
I nod. “It’s your thirtieth. We have to do it up right! I know you don’t necessarily like a bunch of people and all of their attention being on you, so I thought this would be a fun thing for just us to do while still making it special.”
She looks up at me for a moment before wrapping her arms around me and pulling me down for a kiss.
“It’s perfect,” she whispers. “But you didn’t have to go through all the trouble.”
“I get to take my woman to the mountains and get her all to myself for a few days? That’s no trouble at all.” I smile at her, and she returns it.
“Well, thank you. I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone make a big deal out of my birthday before.”
“I know. You said that, and I figure it’s high time someone celebrated the day that you came into the world.”
She giggles to herself.
“What’s so funny?” I ask.
“You just know how to say all the right things, cowboy.”
I laugh and pull her in for another kiss. With this one, I take my time exploring her mouth. When she lets out the softest moan as my tongue flicks against hers, I have to pull back. I’m not sure if she’s done with her period, and I don’t want to push her.
Once our kiss breaks, I ask her what she wants to do with our first night here. I have a few more surprises for the weekend, but tonight, I’ll let her take the reigns.
“I think you should show me the bedroom,” she says with a wicked grin.
“Really? What is it that you want to do in there?” I tease.
She stands on her tiptoes and whispers, “Everything.”
