It was the evening period, and we were done for the day. Nick helped the team members pack up while I rounded up the documents I reviewed. I was distracted, though.
I eventually had sex with Nick, and it still didn’t sit right with me.
There was nothing wrong on the surface, but I felt dissatisfied.
“Something on your mind?” Nick asked.
“Oh, Nick, you’re done helping out the team?” I asked.
“Yes, I just rounded up. Now I’m here to help you round up as well,” he offered. “But it seems like your mind is a little preoccupied right now. Do you want to finish the work or pick up where you’ll stop tomorrow?”
“Well, maybe I should continue tomorrow,” I accepted my defeat.
“There you go,” he praised. “No shame in quitting.”
“Speaking about quitting without shame…”.
“That’s not what I said but go ahead,” he replied with a light chuckle.
“Aisha asked to see you tomorrow, right?” I asked. “I can tell mom to add more protection if that sounds better.”
“I’m not scared of whatever Blake wants to throw at me, and I don’t know what he has planned or in store for us, but we’ll face him together,” he said as he held onto my hand.
“Us? Together?” I was surprised at his choice of words.
He got on one knee and brought out a ring box.
“Aria Wolfe, would you join me on this journey of life together?” he asked.
I wasn’t as thrilled to hear his proposal. Sure, I was expecting that he would propose soon, but I didn’t expect to be so numb about it.
“Is there something wrong, babe? You don’t like the ring?” he asked as he looked at the ring and back at me.
“No, there’s nothing wrong with the ring,” I replied. “It’s very beautiful. It’s just that I feel like you should take over the company and be sure that your brother is out of the way once and for all. Then if you still feel the same way about marrying me, then let’s get married.”
“Don’t worry about that. I just need the assurance that you are by my side,” he explained. “You have no idea how much that empowers me.”
“Aww, Nick,” I sighed.
He held my cheek and kissed me. We kissed for a little while before he pulled up my shirt, cupping my left breast in his hand; he continued to kiss me while toying with my breast.
Then the door burst open, and in came…Nick?

Hunter and I arrived at Wolfe Pack. We rushed past a confused Allison and headed straight for Aria’s office.
When we got in, I saw my spitting image/reflection on his knees with his hands on Aria.
Aria looked surprised as her head darted between my brother and I.
I wanted to rush over to them when Blake pulled out a gun and placed it on her head. “Easy there, big brother.”
I stopped in my tracks.
“That’s what I thought,” he said confidently. “Long time no see. It’s good to see that you’re healthy.”
“Why thank you, I try my best to work out,” I said with a shrug.
