“I was leaning more toward Milla Jovovich,Resident Evilass kicker.” I punched the air.

“Nice.”

“Or, Angelina Jolie when she was Mrs. Smith. She kicked ass in that movie, didn’t she?”

“Perfect! And Drey can be Mr. Smith. Hunter and I can double with you two.”

“Wait, what?”

“Oh…I just…well…you’re friends with Drey, right?” Her face turned beet red.

“Okay, what’s going on here? For real?”

“Nothing. I swear. I…well. Crap.” She took a drink. “It seems like he’s into you. The few times I’ve been here, he’s been with you.”

“Taking care of me. That’s what you mean, right?”

“No. I—told you I was new at this chatting with people thing.”

She was so cute. More than likely she was talking about all the times I was drunk and hitting on Hunter when Drey had to come pull me off. I scrubbed my face with my hands. I was an idiot. And now I really needed that drink.

“I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. You want to hear something weird?”

“Lay it on me.”

“So…you know what happened to me, right? Shut in, attacked…”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I…now don’t freak out…but over the past few times I’ve been here, I’ve been watching you.”

“Weirdness kicking in.”

“And…well, I don’t know how to say this, but, well, as a survivor, I can pick out other survivors. It’s like this freakish connection, and…well…I get that with you.” She sat straight. “I don’t mean to pry or anything. I…well, I’m here if you want to chat.”

“Survivor, huh?” That was a little too close for comfort.

“And you know I do this ball, right? I—you wanna help me?”

“Trust me, you don’t want me anywhere near that ball.”

“What do you mean?”

Well, let’s see, I’m like a dark cloud dampening pretty much anything I touch.“I’m not what you would call a planner.”

“Most of the planning’s done. It’s more doing little things. Shopping, gathering donations, things like that. And I…I’ve never been able to go around and do that before.”

“Being a shut-in, I get it.”

“It’s not Hunter’s thing, either. Can you picture him shopping for decorations? I can do it all online again, like I always do, but…I was thinking it might be fun to gooutand shop now that I can.”

“And by out, you mean with me? Why on earth…I mean, why me?”

She shrugged. “Thought it’d be fun.”

Interesting.

“What makes you think I’m a survivor?” I shifted in my chair, a little unsure why I opened myself to that. The question pretty much admitted I was.
