Sara laughs.

“Relax. It’s just like holding a bunny.”

It’s so not. I take the little bundle in my arms and count ten fingers. Five of those fingers wrap around my thumb, and he opens his tiny mouth, searching for something.

“You’re wrong. It’s better than that,” I say. “Loads and loads better.”

Sara laughs and takes the baby, nestling him in to feed. I know we’re mammals, just like whales, cats, and rabbits are mammals. But there’s something super miraculous and different when it’s your baby.

“Just wait until he starts to fight being held. Then you’ll see the similarity,” she says with a tired chuckle.

“The kid’s gonna learn to hop before he crawls,” I mutter.

Sara snorts, and Evan opens his wide, dark eyes, assessing us both.

“Hi there! Hello! Did you hear us talking about you?” Sara giggles. “Welcome to the world, baby boy.”

My heart might explode at the sight of my little family.

I already know I’m not ready for the chaos that babies bring.

But all I can say is, bring it. All of it. Because it’s all mine.
