Raina laughed. “That’s why I’m here, Jonah. I know Megan better than you. She’s tough on the outside. She always has been. She’s funny and a good time, but she spends too much of her time needing approval from people too.”

“Her parents?” he asked.

“She told you?”

“We do talk, you know. I know she’s got older sisters and her parents think she needs to settle down with some boring accountant or engineer.”

“Something like that. Being the youngest, I know what it’s like to be babied, but she didn’t get that. Most of her life was spent being compared to her older sisters. She wants to be liked. She wants her family to be proud of her.”

“She should be more worried about how she feels about herself,” he said.

“Maybe you should say that to her. I have, but she gets in her head. She knows she does. I think pursuing you was out of her comfort zone.”

“Not sure how to take that comment,” he said, frowning.

“I said it to her and I’ll say it to you. You’re not her type and she isn’t yours.”

“What did you tell her about my type?” he asked.

“Just that you dated a lot of women from the gym. Or that is your type. I might have said before you don’t bring a lot of women home to meet Mom and Dad.”

“I know,” he said. “We’ve had that talk.”

“Sorry. If I’d known she had the hots for you or you two were spending time together, I might have watched my words more carefully.”

“It’s fine,” he said. “Not a big deal. It didn’t come as a shock to her that I’ve dated women here.”

“No, it wouldn’t. She said she knew about your injury. I didn’t say much. I didn’t know if she knew about Molly?”

“No,” he said. “No reason it needed to come up. We all have exes in our lives.”

“We do,” she said. “None of us know it all and you aren’t one to share. Molly got you started fighting and Mom and I hated that.”

“I know,” he said.

“And she was your agent,” Raina said.

“Loosely,” he said.

“When you said you weren’t going to fight anymore after you were better, she didn’t stick around long.”

“Nope,” he said. He didn’t need the reminder.

“I get it. I’ll let it drop.”

“Not much to say,” he said. “You know it all.”

Though they didn’t and they wouldn’t. Just like he didn’t know everything that happened in his sister or brother’s life.

“I told her about what happened to me in college,” Raina said.

“Megan didn’t know?” He was never one to bring that up, but if Megan had said something he would have known she was aware.

“No. Not many know that I’ve spoken at Duke about it either. It’s just nothing I’ve been that vocal about but am getting there. I told her after I had done that at Duke and she was proud of me.”

“We all are,” he said. “But why tell her today? What does it have to do with me?”

“I wanted her to know you’re sensitive.”
