‘Good,’ he announced with a possessive huff, before scooping her into his arms. ‘Because now I intend to get you out of that dress which has been driving me wild all evening and make you my queen in the only way that counts.’

She laughed as he marched into their bed chamber but, as he placed her beside the bed and set about divesting her of said gown, she clasped his hands. ‘Wait, Kamal.’

‘What? Why?’ he asked, his impatient frown only making her love him more. She hoped that fierce need would never dim...

‘I have something to tell you...’ She hesitated as her heart throbbed into her throat.

He cradled her face in one callused palm, his thumb brushing away the tear that slipped down her cheek.

‘What is it, Kaliah?’ he asked, that flash of fear something she hoped to erase completely one day.

She swallowed, the emotion all but choking her.

She’d planned this moment so carefully over the last five days—exactly what she would say and how she would say it—but it all suddenly seemed like too much. They were entering another brand-new phase of their lives together, after only having just embarked on the last one and, as much as she knew Kamal wanted this, she wasn’t sure if he wanted it right now.

‘Whatever it is, we will fix it together,’ he said, still stroking her cheek, his face a mask of confusion now, and determination...and love.

Oh, for goodness’ sake, Liah, just say it. You’re scaring him.

‘I’m pregnant!’ she blurted out with a great deal less finesse than she had planned.

His eyes widened with shock, and then his gaze darted down to her stomach.

‘You...? Y-you are having our child?’ His expression was filled with awe as his gaze met hers.

She nodded, her stomach bouncing as he pressed a hand to where their baby grew.

‘I found out on Monday. I guess my contraception must have failed when I had that bout of food poisoning last month...’ She began to babble. ‘I know we didn’t plan it just yet, and it’s going to be a lot to take on with all our new responsibilities, and the US trade tour next...’

‘Shh...’ he said then, to her astonishment, he sunk to his knees and pressed his cheek to her belly as his arms wrapped around her hips.

She stroked his silky hair, feeling the tremble of fierce emotion.

‘Kamal, is everything okay?’ she asked, her voice thick with tears now.

He looked up at her at last, his gaze dark and intense—and so full of joy, she had to wipe away the tears now streaming down her cheeks.

‘Yes, everything is much, much better than okay,’ he said.

Then he surged to his feet, lifted her into his arms and swung her around with a whoop of triumph.

Her laughter joined his deep chuckles as he set her back on her feet at last...and the fierce joy spread like wildfire in her heart.
