I lifted a brow. “You partying?”

“Yup.” She swung her arms in the air above her head.

“Make sure you learn how to dance while at it.”

Lennox laughed, covering her mouth. “I’m getting better. That bomb ass twerk is loading.” She winked dramatically again, making me shake my head.

Then things went quiet again. Soul For Real’s “Candy Rain” played low. Thanks to my dumb ass excitement of being in the same room as her, I skipped a beat in the conversation flow.

“You look good, Tobias,” her voice was so small…insecure. She was vulnerable, and so fucking femininely divine, my brain froze a bit.

I raked my hands down my face, inhaling deeply. “Yeah. If it’s one thing the kid gon’ do, it’s stay fly.”

As I held a straight face, she spit out air. “Kid? You’re about to be thirty years old. Far from a kid, old man.”

“You’re saying what I’m about to be like it’smybirthday that’s coming up soon.”

“Yeah. But I’ll only be turning twenty-nine. Your next birthday is the big three-oh, buddy!”

Nodding, I conceded. “You got that.”

“How does it feel?”

“You asked me the same thing a couple of months ago.”

“I know. Aging is a real freaking thing. Whether we’re prepared for it or not, it happens. If we’re not ready, it’ll leave us on our asses.”

I nodded in agreement, digesting that. “This is true. To answer your question, I’ve been giving more thought to my future. Investing has been a big push for me mentally.”

“What about it?” Lennox curled her legs, placing her feet beneath her on the sofa.

Was this her facial expression when we’d talk on the phone for hours when we could?

“It’s something I need to do.”

“You dabble in real estate.”

“Not for real, for real; I’m learning. Back in June, I was lucky enough to have lunch with a few millionaires—even a billionaire was in the house.”

Lennox’s eyes burst wide. “Jay Z? Diddy?”

I shook my head. “Azmir Jacobs.”

Her face fell. “Never heard of him.”

“Yet, he hit the billionaire markbeforeJay and Puff.” It was her turn to nod. I continued. “Funny, though, because it went down atDiFillippo’s. You ever been there?”

“No. I heard the food is superb, though.”

“It is. I hope to take you one day.” I needed to move smoothly past my offer and dive back into the story. I wouldn’t make this shit weird. “Well, Jacobs owns the place—”

“Is he Italian? Jacobs doesn’t sound Italian.”

“Nah.” I shook my head, grinning. “The man’s darker than me. He Black, Black. But that’s what I learned about him. He’s a master investor. Stenton Rogers was at the table—”

She sucked in a breath. “StentRo?”

Nodding my head, I explained, “Young Lord was there and a few other cats. Jackson Hunter invited me.” My eyes lifted to her. “Another funny thing?”
