"Why do you care?" His eyes narrowed in on me.

"There's no need to hurt innocent people because his pockets are empty." I firmed.

"That's why everybody else is at risk. He needs to see somebody die that he cares about. That’ll straighten his ass out."

"Maybe. But if you touch the wrong one, you'll have a mark on your head that you can never erase. Stick to him and you're good." I kept my stare level and unyielding. He caught if Simone in the crossfire, this twitchy motherfucker would die. There wasn’t a place safe enough to hide him.

"Are you threatening me?" Cecil walked toward me and my men blocked him.

"No. Threats are for cowards." I stepped through the two men standing between me and Cecil. "I'm not that."

We stood eye to eye, and I never wavered under his guise.

"You're a bold man, Beni. It'll do you good to watch yourself."

"No need. I'm not here to make you an enemy. I'm here for what you called me for. Aside from that, some of my people are affiliated with that asshole Marcus. I'd rather them not be touched. Stick to him and we're solid."

"Understood. And if he dies?" He asked me.

"You're doing me a favor." I put my hand out and Cecil shook it.

"He still lives on Yessidy Drive?"

That was Simone’s house.

"No. He lives on Worthington."

He nodded. "I'll make that known."

"Appreciated." We left the building and Massimo drove us down to the river.

"Damn, Beni." He sighed.

"What?" I sat on the trunk of his car and waited for him to speak.

"Pop would have never handled it like that."

"I know." It would have turned into a shootout where he barely made it out. Then he'd have Massimo and his goons clean it up.

"Were you serious about everything you said the other day?"

"I am."

He nodded. "I want off the streets. No more back road jobs. I wanna be able to build my legacy. I can't do that this way."

"Not if you want to be proud." I said.

"I do."

"Let's find what you're good at, then." I didn't know enough about him these days to even know what he was into.

"I'd love to take over the restaurant. Cypher is getting old. I have ideas including a remodel. That area is coming back up. It's a good idea to revamp it now."

"Show me your plans. Let's set up a meeting for Tuesday."

"Thanks, brother." Massimo hugged me.

“You’ll need to go down and handle the issue with Jerry’s boys. I sent you that picture to use as a warning to them. I don’t want to hear about them over there again without more consequences. Regardless or where I move you, this is your problem now. One that shouldn’t have gotten this far out of hand.”
