His stomach tensed. He had a bad feeling about what was coming.

He hadn't known Opal long, but he knew enough to know that there was something she was hiding. Everyone had secrets, and he couldn't expect her to just explain everything at the drop of a hat.

You also have secrets yourself. You can't be upset if she doesn't share hers so openly.

He gripped his bike with white knuckles and ground his teeth together. He was suddenly frustrated. Why hadn't she let him go with her? What was so bad about him helping her?

He wanted to protect her if she was in danger. He wanted to ensure that nothing bad ever happened to her. It was a primal instinct. She had it too.

Did she have a secret too terrible to share? Is there something I should know and I don't?

He drove a block behind her, watching her head to her office. He could feel she was tense and worried. So, something bad happened.

As she pulled into the lot behind the building, he noticed all the activity and police cars on the opposite side. Back here, she was alone. He'd been to the senior center before, but he suddenly was nervous about what he was going to find inside. It seemed that Opal was, too, because she paused in her car.

She sat there for a moment, staring at the rear of the building. He wondered what was going through her head. What happened that had the police out front?

After a few moments, she jumped out and grabbed her purse, heading toward the back entrance. She strode with long strides, holding her head high. He hopped off his motorcycle and rolled his shoulders. He watched her, still being sure to stay at a distance. He didn't want to upset her more with his presence.

After a few moments of her walking, he noticed a man stalking toward her from behind. His insides growled, alerting him that something wasn't right about it.

Opal stopped walking and turned to look over her shoulder. Just then, the man pulled a black bag up and over her head. Benton’s eyes widened in horror.

His feet rocketed him forward, rushing across the parking lot toward her and the man.

A panel van screeched to a stop next to them, and the side door slid open. Another man hopped out and helped the first man shove Opal backward, smacking her head against the floor of the van as they tossed her inside.

Opal screamed, but it sounded muffled. It sent a shockwave down his entire body. She was scared. He could hear it in her tone.

The two men looked at each other, and he growled. The first one was tall with shaggy black hair. He had a scar on his left lip and dark circles under his eyes. The other was short with black hair and a pierced left ear. He looked a little more put together.

"Let's get this little bitch back to Troy. He can handle her."

They both laughed and didn't see him coming up behind them. He grabbed the first one, thrusting his head forward and into the side of the van. He tumbled to the ground, but the second guy was quicker and picked up on Benton being there.

He grabbed him from behind, sending Benton bodily into the van door. He slammed into the metal but quickly caught himself before the guy could hurt him more.

"Who the fuck are you?" one of them asked as he turned. He growled at them, ready to rip their throats out.

"Your worst nightmare." He moved forward, grabbed the second guy, and punched him. The guy fumbled backward as the first guy pulled himself up.

"Who are you taking Opal to?" he asked with rage fueling his actions. Whoever these men were, they were working for someone, and he wanted to know who. He knew it was more likely connected to what happened inside her office.

They glared back at him, keeping their lips sealed. The shorter one looked at the taller one. "Let's get rid of this prick before we leave. He's probably some fan of Opal’s."

"Benton?" Opal’s voice quivered as if half asleep.

Before he could think, both of the guys shifted. One of them was a panther who stood short, while the other was a tiger shifter with a darker coat. He held his ground, feeling anger rush down him. He wanted answers. And he was going to get them one way or another.

Both jumped toward him, and he quickly moved out of the way. They tumbled into the van shaking it. Opal screamed from the inside.

He stepped back as they both stalked after him. He figured it wouldn’t take long for someone inside to hear the commotion. But no one had come to investigate yet. So it was just him for the time being.

He growled and shifted himself. He didn't want to, but he knew it was the only way to get Opal back.

He roared at them as he charged. He knocked the panther into the van once more while he shoved the tiger into the ground with his back legs.

He felt the panther bear down on him, giving the tiger a moment to get himself free. The panther bit into his shoulder, causing pain to course over him. He quickly whipped the panther off, knocking him a distance away. He heard him crash into something, but he didn't know what.
