“Kid? I’m eighteen, asshole, and so is she.” Grayson points to Cadence. “So if you think I’m a kid, then what does that make you then, huh? A motherfucking pedophile?”

“Gray! Cut the shit,” Cadence yells, but he ignores her and steps up to James, getting right in his face.

James clenches his fists, the knuckles turning white. “Back the fuck off,” he warns.

“Or what? You gonna hit akid, tough guy?” Grayson goads, and the muscles in James’s arms flex. I gnaw the inside of my cheek as I watch the scene unfold. Grayson has no idea who he is dealing with here. James would flatten him in seconds.

“Well, come on then.” He gives James’s chest a hard shove, and my eyes dart to Cadence. Hers meet mine and, as if reading each other’s thoughts, we immediately spring into action.

Cadence moves in front of Grayson while I stand in front of James. If they are going to fight, they have to get through us first. Not that it would be hard to get past our tiny frames, but hopefully, it’s enough of a deterrent.

“That’s enough. Come on, we need to talk.” Cadence takes hold of Grayson’s arm and pulls him in the door’s direction. His eyes remain locked on James, refusing to be the first to look away.

“Gray!” Cadence shrieks. Her high-pitched voice breaks his determined stance, and he finally relents, allowing himself to be pulled out the double doors onto the deck outside.

She slides the doors shut, and James mutters under his breath, “Pansy-ass motherfucker.”

I can only assume she closed the door to create a barrier between the two men as it sure wasn’t for privacy. At least thirty onlookers outside are watching on as they both scream at each other, and I turn to James, giving him a sympathetic shrug.

“What’s going on with those two?” he asks me.

I shake my head. “I don’t think they even know.”

I knew it would come to this. They have been sleeping together for too long now for there not to be some form of attachment. Cadence has always insisted there were no feelings involved, but Grayson’s reaction toward James proves otherwise, and I can’t help feeling a tad sorry for Grayson that his apparent feelings for her are unrequited.

Suddenly the doors slide open, and Cadence storms back in, fury clear on her face as she makes a beeline straight for James and grabs hold of his arm.

“Come on, let’s get out of here.”

“Where the fuck are you going?” Grayson roars, stepping back inside.

“Away from you, asshole,” she yells back, pulling James behind her.

“With him?”

“Yes, with him.”

“You’re a fucking whore, Cadence!”

“I’m the whore?” she screams, stopping and pinning him with a murderous glare. “Go take a look in the mirror, you bastard. You are the very definition of a whore.”

“I’m not the one about to fuck someone else.”

“You fucked someone else two weeks ago,” she fires back, and his jaw drops.

Along with mine.

Why is this the first I’m hearing of this?

She raises her brows at his shocked expression. “What? Did you think I would never find out about that? Summer took great pleasure in giving me all of the fine details today after gym class.”

“Fuck!” he mutters, tugging on his hair.

“Yeah, fuck,” she replies bitterly. “Why don’t you go find her, Gray? I’m sure she would be more than happy to go for round two. Or would it be round three? Who knows. I really don’t fucking care anymore.”

Cadence’s chin trembles, her hard front cracking and revealing the heartbreak buried within. It’s then that I realize how deep her feelings for Grayson actually go.

Why didn’t she tell anyone about this? Why didn’t she tell me?
