“Come on, Aurora. I’ve barely seen you since you got here. I miss you.” Aiden took her hand gently, an attempt to convince her.

Aurora finally agreed. She locked up, leaving the key behind the plant by their front door in case Trisha came back before her. She hadn’t had time to get a spare key made yet. Aiden held her hand as they got on the elevator and all the way down to his car. Aurora remained quiet but held his hand. It was only when the car started moving that she couldn’t take more of the suspense.

“Are you ever going to tell me what happened with my brother?” She couldn’t keep the irritation out of her voice.

Aiden glanced at her.

“We argued but he finally came around. I told him I am serious about our relationship.” Aiden said, taking her hand with his free one. He pressed it softly, rubbing his thumb on the back of her hand. Aurora relaxed instantly.

“Will he talk to me now?”

“Yes, baby. Stop worrying.”

Aurora sighed, feeling the tension of the past few days drain out of her. Her brother, no matter how distant he had been over the years, meant a lot to her.

“He knows about my past, so he was just worried about you,” Aiden said, still stroking her hand.

Aurora wanted to ask him what kind of future he saw with her, but she figured that was a question for another day.

“Why are you so quiet? Aren’t you happy? We can even live together now,” Aiden glanced at her, giving her a smile.

“I am. I just don’t know if you feel the same for me as I do for you.” There. She had finally said it. What had been bothering her for the entirety of their short relationship. A look of apprehension clouded Aiden’s face. He didn’t respond.

Why did she have to ask him that?

He didn’t let go of her hand but no words came from him. He continued driving, maneuvering the heavy traffic hours. Finally, the car came to a stop at what seemed to be a private parking lot. He was taking her to his penthouse, she realized.

“Come with me,” he said, getting out of the car and opening the door for her. She took his hand and followed him.

It seemed like the elevator would never stop. His penthouse was on the 23rd floor, and by the time they reached the stop Aurora was feeling a bit dizzy. Aiden unlocked the door with his fingerprint and switched on the lights on their way in. Aurora had already seen his penthouse in their video calls, but she hadn’t been prepared for how grand it was in reality. Located in one of New York’s luxurious neighborhoods, it had a 360-degree view of Manhattan’s skyline. Aurora was blown away by the city lights that could be seen from the glass windows.

She had only dreamed of seeing them one day and finally she could. Her heart jumped with joy, her frustration from the past days melting away. She looked around the penthouse, marveling at the interior put together in shades of beige and gray. Soft orange lights illuminated the lounge, where light-colored sofas were placed. The place screamed luxury and she almost felt out of place. She pushed the thought away, trying to enjoy the moment.

“Thought we’d ditch the ice cream and have some nice wine here,” Aiden said to her. Aurora looked at him and couldn’t help breaking into a smile. He had brought her to his home, that must mean he was serious about her.

Aiden pulled her close and hugged her. The city lights shimmered in the background and the ambience of the penthouse was just perfect for their kiss that came next.

“I’ve never liked anyone as much as I like you, Aurora.” Aiden’s voice was soft in her ear. He placed a kiss on her temple.

She tilted her head to look into his eyes.

“I want us to be together,” he said, running his fingers through her hair. Aurora’s heart bloomed with joy and love. She had never thought he would say that to her. She had never thought she would receive just pure affection from him.

Aurora smiled and gave him a kiss, wanting to say something but at the same time not wanting to ruin the moment with hasty words.

“Let me pour you some wine,” Aiden said, heading for the kitchen. The kitchen was probably the biggest one she had ever seen, with white marble countertop, brown cabinets and gold-colored faucets.

“Oh no, I don’t drink.” Feeling slightly panicky at the words. That was not completely a lie. Aurora hardly ever drank. The last time she had had a sip of beer was on Christmas and that too because everyone else was drinking it. But now, she couldn’t drink because of the baby.

“Oh, really? You’re missing out. I have the best collection.” Aiden seemed a bit surprised.

“Just plain water for me, thanks.” Aurora smiled, hoping she didn’t seem suspicious.

Just a few more weeks and she would tell him. Just until she got settled at work and had a talk with Ethan.

Just a little more time to wrap her head around it all.
