One Year Later

When Carrie and I made our engagement official, we couldn’t wait to tie the knot. She only lived in the dorm for one semester. Then, I gave up my bachelor pad in the city, and my new bride and I made the cabin our permanent residence.

Since Carrie had no family to attend our wedding, I invited the entire force to join us so she could have the big, fairy-tale wedding that she deserved. We even had Dante from the neighborhood restaurant cater the event.

We’ve been remodeling the interior of the cabin for months now and just took a break from painting the kitchen. We sit down on the couch and I turn on the television. Today was the last day of jury deliberation in the co-ed murder case.

Carrie and I were both called to testify and our testimony, combined with DNA evidence and the evidence inventory logs, provided the prosecutor with a slam dunk. The media and the public have already moved on to the next big scandal, and the guilty verdict is just a footnote on tonight’s local evening news.

I take Carrie’s paint-splattered hand as we watch the courthouse footage and listen to the prosecutor as he tells the camera that he’s certain all three defendants will be given life sentences.

“It’s finally over,” Carrie sighs.

“Yup, justice has been served,” I reply.

“What room did you want to tackle after the kitchen?” she quickly changes the subject.

“I don’t know. I was thinking about moving outside and getting to work in the garage before winter comes.”

“Well, since our room is done and both of the bathrooms are done, I thought it might be time to start working on one of the other bedrooms,” she says.

“Why? Are you planning to invite overnight guests? Oh, or maybe I can make one of them into a man cave. You know? Somewhere that I can sit by myself and drink beer and belch all day,” I chide her.

“I think our guest is probably going to want to stay for more than one night,” she smiles.

“What are you talking about?” I cock my eyebrow and brace myself for whatever crazy idea she’s cooked up.

“If I had to guess, they’re gonna want to be here somewhat permanently. For at least the first eighteen years anyway,” her eyes light up and she grins from ear to ear.

“Are you telling me we’re having a baby? You’re pregnant?” I hold my breath and wait for her confirmation.

“Yes,” she nods. “The doctor says we’re about three months along. I thought I was just getting fat.”

“Fat? Where? Your body hasn’t changed at all. You’re still the sexiest thing alive. Actually, sexier now that I know that you have my baby inside you. I don’t know what to say. Thank you, little girl,” I embrace her and kiss her temple.

“So you’re happy?” she asks.

“Are you kidding me? I’m the happiest man alive. I love you, princess.”

“I love you, too, Daddy,” she beams.

We give up on our painting for the night, and I run us a warm shower. We climb in and I soap up her breasts and belly before resting my hand on her tummy and smiling.

I never realized how much I wanted a family until Carrie came along, especially since my job always came before my social life. Now, I have the most beautiful wife and a baby on the way. My life couldn’t get any better.

My manhood swells as I touch her smooth skin and she turns and takes it in her hand. She smiles and says, “Let me help you with that, Daddy.”

How could any one man be this lucky?

Five Years Later

“Happy birthday, Carmen Ashley Cappella!” Carrie says as she carries the birthday cake out to the patio. I can’t believe our firstborn is four years old already. I take Carmen in my arms and hold her up so she can blow out the candles then sit her in her chair for cake and ice cream.
